Back from a great week at #sere2024 in Estonia with @EndangeredLands! I presented in the session on equitable and effective stakeholder engagement in ecological restoration. Unifying message across panellists seemed to be: invest time, build trust!
This is just one approach to working with interested parties in restoration. Other presenters spoke about guardianships, living labs, adaptive co-management and more. Important thing is to commit: building trust and relations takes time and resources, but it is worth it.
Enjoying Estonian sun at #SERE2024 in Tartu. Great session this AM on legal and technical challenges in nature restoration in Europe, inc some chat about diverse values and perspectives on nature, and social/cultural dimensions of eco restoration 🍃

Interesting and extremely useful paper from fab colleagues @_HelenaSlater et al. Widespread acknowledgement that conservation is an interdisciplinary field is not reflected in HE teaching in UK and Australia.
New paper published: Assessing the breadth and multidisciplinarity of the conservation curriculum in the United Kingdom and Australia

We are delighted that Prof Melissa Leach @mleach_ids will be the next CCI Executive Director! Melissa will lead CCI into its next chapter, fostering the transformations we need for a diverse world in which nature and societies thrive together. 👏https://t.co/6tKXk56Vhh
For my first (only?) tweet of 2023: @thegriefcast from @ladycariad is just an incredible resource. It’s so touching, entertaining, genuinely helpful. Cariad has done something amazing here.
I’ve pre-ordered her book for 19th Jan ❤️

I heard last week of my promotion to Professor, from October. Today the @MPhilCL students & team put on a surprise party for me. I’m so touched! And so lucky to have worked with such amazing students, colleagues, collaborators, mentors & teachers throughout my career. Thank you!
“Black Spring” was later recorded by @EdwynCollins at his residential studios “Chatuea D’ Helmsdale”. Chris Taylor of @parr_street mixed it into something really special.

(7) “Superstardom” - Another Abi gem. Recorded at @Edwyncollins studio back in 2019 with @EdwynCollins super Ricky from his abundantly stocked guitar shed.
(4) “Inspiration For Robots” - there’s 3 songwriters in the band and this song introduces Abi Woods. A real subtle rocker - big verse, big chorus. Great to play live.

.@RSPCA_official@RSPCA_PATeam this weekend I was prevented from breastfeeding my baby in one of your charity shops. I've tried to engage with the store manager but they refuse to recognise the UK Equalities Act. Please help.

11/ In sum: Corridors aren’t perceived universally by all pro cons stakeholders; fundamental Qs and diffs remain unresolved. False consensus can be dangerous in cons, so key actors should be encouraged/allowed to critically reflect on their beliefs and assumptions!

10/ Something that wasn't clear-cut was whether corridors are seen as 'natural' or not 🌿 This ambivalence cut across all 3 factors. This has implications for how #connectivityconservation is understood and practiced by cons decisionmakers, and so warrants further investigation.
