Wildlife likely hear us more than they see us but how are they responding to the noise we generate while recreating?

Excited to be starting as Executive Director, Cambridge Conservation Initiative (CCI) - amazing partnership of NGOs and researchers working together for people and nature. Thanks to @IDS_UK for 34 incredible years and a decade as Director - keep up the great work.
@jgeldmann Thank Jonas. A real pet peeve for me is when authors say that conservation (and PAs in particular) is failing/not effective because biodiversity is still being lost. No thinking about what things would be like if we did nothing!
The rise and fall of the Sid Meier's Civilization franchise from 1991 to 2018 is both one of the great tragedies of the computer gaming industry, and a window into the massive change in psychology of the US ruling class. This thread will explore both.
@RichDGregory3@Nature@T_F_Johnson@RSPBScience@UCLCBER@UCLLifeSciences I'm sure you're right Richard - it's just worrying that the big global datasets are doing such a bad job of telling us what is happening. I worry that biodiversity loss deniers might jump on studies like this. But it's still good science and worth doing!
Congrats to Berry Mulligan, 2017-18 alum of our Masters! He's now Seascapes Programme Manager overseeing major grants to restore marine biodiversity.
"I studied collaboration for seascape revival...now I get to put those insights into action across Europe"
Interesting new paper by @_HelenaSlater which shows the difference between how we OUGHT to train conservationists, and how we ARE training conservationists. In @ConservationSP

@ForrestFleisch1 In this same situation last month we got an esim from nomad which worked great for data. Not having a local number was a pain though as you can't use any local apps for delivery etc
New paper alert!, very proud of it since it has been in the works since my PhD days. We , @NaomiMillner@bennewport@csandbrook delve into the world of drone use in contemporary conservation, explore its impacts, opportunities, and politics. Check it out, it is open access
I'm thrilled to see our paper out in Progress in Environmental Geography this week. With @csandbrook@trishantsimlai and @bennewport we look at intentional and nonintentional geographic outcomes of using drones in conservation
