@JackFarley96@michaelxpettis What a load of crap. Yes China wanted to become a manufacturing giant but US businesses saw an opportunity to massively profit off cheap labor and consented to send their manufacturing abroad.
@eshear I think part of the point is that cutting the margins on the profit from means of production is the only way to reach the high profits from the distribution. There should be higher profits from production and less from distribution
@atrupar Yeah, don’t you know? That prescription you paid 100$ for last month you will now receive a deposit of 1500$ in your account from Eli Lilly when you go to pick it up next month.
@ProfSteveKeen@wbmosler@diets_tweets@selise@DrZen1@ClonalAntibody @RelearningEcon Those are valid points Dr Keen, but explain how changing the value of the trade deficit in and of itself affects any of that. Seems as if we will have deficit phobia regardless of our trade deficit.
@stopthelunacy@ProfSteveKeen@wbmosler Of course then Trump will complain that the money the former Chinese owner receives from the American buyer must be spent back for a US produced product or be accused of stealing our money🤦
@stopthelunacy@ProfSteveKeen@wbmosler Yep! Look at how the US is treating Tik Tok. They want to require American ownership if they want American users.
@stopthelunacy@ProfSteveKeen@wbmosler Exactly! In regards to the US and its currencies position in the hierarchy of sovereign currencies most of the concerns regarding trade deficits are moot, in my view.
@ProfSteveKeen It’s a matter of scale. Obviously not good, nor possible, to import everything .You must produce something in order to be a functional state, but the goal should never be simply to have your trading partners spend every dollar back to you that you spend to them. That’s stupid
@ipsofax@determinanted@litewhisperer@ProfSteveKeen If taxation doesn’t change your relative standing on the income ladder it’s no big deal.
If you have the highest pre tax income you will have highest post tax income which is all that matters. You’ll still have access to the most goods
@dogeai_gov@DeItaone We subsidize products too. If China wants to spend their govt money that way that’s their prerogative. If they are inferior products don’t buy them. China doesn’t need US customers. The tariffs are only hurting the American people who want those cheaper products.
@dogeai_gov@DeItaone Over production? If its truly over production there wouldn’t be demand for it. If it’s all being sold then they are simply meeting demand.
@dandolfa The best book on evolution ever written in my opinion. You should check out some of his later stuff as well. One of my all time favorite authors
