It's not even a meme anymore, Brian Cashman has lost nearly every single trade or free agent signing in recent history. That's if you exclude Aaron Judge

Yankees have been sketch balls for years with injuries. Here is what "contusion and sprain of toe" means in Yankee. In about two or three days, " after the swelling went down, the new x-ray showed a hairline fracture.. out 6-8 weeks"
Josh Donaldson and DJ LeMahieu should be competing for playing time.
If Donaldson fizzles, call up Oswald Peraza.
And look. I say this as someone who desperately wanted the Yankees to move on from JD. I've written entire dissertations on the matter. They should give him a few looks, though.
The fact is, LeMahieu has found himself in his third extended slump since signing that deal, and the last two became IL stints. (DJ hasn’t seen a postseason at-bat since Trump was in office. We’re almost up to the next election.) You can’t trust DJ to stay healthy, which changes things from where we were in the off-season in regards to JD.
Also, last night was a sign of what Donaldson can bring if he’s right. Every ball he made contact with was over 100 MPH. His first home run, a 446-foot barreled shot hit at 110 MPH, was off Clayton Kershaw. It would have been out in 30 of 30 ballparks. His next, a two-run shot that was also barreled was hit 108 MPH and went 418 feet. That would have been out in 29 of 30 parks. He’s only had 21 plate appearances, and it’s his fifth barreled ball.
Does Friday’s production mean we’re getting Toronto or Atlanta Donaldson? I’m still highly skeptical and think he’ll inevitably be DFA’d for Peraza, but I’ll give JD a shot. There are a lot of things about him I personally don’t like — singling out Gerrit Cole during the sticky stuff incidents of 2021 being one of them. Even with all that, you can’t say he hasn’t had a productive career. See what you have, and if he’s cooked, move on. From where we’ve been with third this year, at a minimum, we’ll get a few weeks of reliable third base defense and more power from what we’ve had at the position.
In the end, this is a better position than where the Yankees were in 2021 when DJ struggled, and couldn’t finish the season. In his wake is a former MVP and an exciting young player.
