Environmental campaigner & author, The Lie of the Land (William Collins, Sept 2024), The Lost Rainforests of Britain, & Who Owns England? Agent: @JMLockhart2
It's real!!
Very excited to hold in my hands a hardback copy of my new book, THE LIE OF THE LAND - an expose of what the 'custodians of the countryside' have done to nature in Britain.

Apparently some people are doubting the existence of a Welsh rainforest, so here’s an introduction.
There are tropical rainforests and there are temperate rainforests. This is a temperate rainforest.
This habitat is characterised by high enough rainfall and humidity that mosses, ferns, lichens, and liverworts can grow on almost every surface including on the trees.
Rainforests once covered huge areas of Britain but now only small fragments remain.
This site has more information and an interactive map showing the UK’s natural rainforest zones vs the remaining fragments:

In England, where over 90% of land is privately owned, the “right to roam” debate is intensifying.
“Why don’t you want to pay?” asks landowner Francis Fulford.
“We just want easier access to nature,” says campaigner Guy Shrubsole.
Can common ground be found? We brought them together to find out.
In Feb @SteveReedMP looked me in the eye and promised me the Govt "was committed to #BiodiversityNetGain"
Now, we understand, he is contemplating gutting it
If this happens, why should we trust any future promises @UKLabour make on #nature?

BREAKING: Willow trees on Dartmoor common owned by Prince William deliberately poisoned with herbicide
This is an outrageous act of sabotage. Dartmoor’s commons are virtually treeless already, due to centuries of overgrazing by sheep

@timfarron @AliDriverUK @LibDems No, again, that is not what it says. You are claiming lambs constitute 30% of the diets of ALL sea eagles. The study found that to be the case in a mere 7 out of 89 territories.
You still haven’t provided evidence for your claim that sea eagles would “not enhance biodiversity”
@timfarron @AliDriverUK @LibDems Tim, you're really going to have to publish the 'evidence' you have for your claims here. 30% of lamb kills? 'Environmental gains are small'? Says who? Which conservationists say this?
As the PM heads to the Amazon for COP30, remember that Britain is also a rainforest nation.
UK Ministers must support Brazil's plans to save the world's tropical rainforests. They must also set a goal to restore Britain's own lost temperate rainforests:

@samuelhall0 Badenoch hasn’t put forward an ‘alternative approach’. If she disagrees with the level of the carbon budgets, change the trajectory. If she favours one tech over another, sure, back that. This is merely an act of arson, and your response is flaccid.
@MoorlandAssoc So rewet the blanket bog. Healthy blanket bog doesn’t need ‘managing’.
Oh wait, you don’t actually want blanket bog, you want it converted into a heather monoculture for grouse shooting
.@WmCollinsBooks has acquired The Ghosts of Chalk Country, a 'journey into the chalk downs' by Sunday Times-bestselling author @guyshrubsole. Publication is scheduled for April 2027 👇 https://t.co/GdFzBpmwp5
Few things.
1) Miliband got 30% in 2015, which is a hell of a lot better than Starmer is getting at next GE (circa 20%).
2) Speaking to Reform voters the ONE Lab politician they have time for is Burnham.
3) Burnham is more experienced than Ed M in 2015
4) He's handsome.
