Growing up, at a very very young age it was apparent to me that the concept of god was a man-made fiction. Like Krishna is a just a character in a big story book written 2500 years back.

What took me much much longer to figure was that how is it not apparent to everyone around me. I was too young to understand what 'deluding yourself' means, or the concept of being too scared to admit to yourself what you already realise. Or having the need to believe in a higher power.

I saw this tweet and realised how this is a great example of this phenomena.

People who completely understand what LLMs are - that they are a man-made system of neural networks which are trained on corpus of human-generated data, which simply predicts tokens, has no 'divine' origin, still think they are "talking to god" via that system.

It just feels amusing to me that calling it merely a python script would feel somehow less than giving it the name and face of a "god", and this is people who, at least from the first principles do know it is a python script.

The idea of god is really powerful, because it works even when people can very easily logically conclude the shape and form they are 'experiencing' it is patently man made.

in a relationship, roughly the only thing that matters is if you can be yourself around them… shared hobbies, attraction, lifestyle alignment is downstream.

if you can’t be fully yourself around someone, you’re either performing or negotiating constantly. & over time that corrodes everything. true intimacy is being radically unedited & still accepted.
