Simply put, Dolly Parton was an American original. She was an inspiration to millions. She was a relentless advocate for women and for equality. Through her Imagination Library, she placed the gift of reading into the hands of millions of children because she understood literacy is the foundation of opportunity.
But perhaps most importantly, Dolly treated everyone with kindness and respect. She lived her values with a flair and vitality for life that was uniquely her own. She was a trailblazer in every sense of the word, and she will be missed by millions around the world.
Jill and I are keeping her family, her friends, and her millions of fans in our prayers.
God bless Dolly Parton.
This is truly heartbreaking. Dolly Parton was an extraordinary person and an irreplaceable champion of the working class. We are a better country because of her.
Dolly Parton was one of a kind—a great songwriter and performer who told the stories of everyday Americans with honesty, humility, and heart. She rose high from her East Tennessee roots and never forgot where she came from. And she always believed in giving back, especially in her efforts to promote literacy. Hillary and I were big fans and first saw her in 1974, and will always be grateful for the music and the memories. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family, her legion of fans, and everyone who loved her.

Miley got to perform with her godmother Dolly Parton many times and this will always be such a special moment where Miley got emotional performing “I Will Always Love You” along with her at New Year’s eve 🥺
Dolly Parton was one of the great entertainers of our era. She was not only a talented musician & songwriter, but a lifelong philanthropist and advocate for literacy, education, LGBTQ+ rights, healthcare and disaster relief.
Her music and humanity touched millions. She will be sorely missed.
Dolly Parton didn’t spend her dollars on space travel or a trip to the titanic because she was writing checks to put 150 million books in the hands of children.

Leading up to the 25th anniversary of 9/11, the U.S. president is trying to paint Canada as an enemy.
Canada was your neighbour that took in US-bound planes after the attacks and welcomed stranded Americans into our homes.
Canada sent 40,000 troops to fight for you.
158 Canadians died fighting for you.
Warm and sincere Independence Day wishes from His Majesty King Charles III and Her Majesty The Queen are deeply moving and exceptionally meaningful.

Together, we stand united in pursuit of a just and lasting peace in Europe.
¡Muchas gracias, España! 🇺🇦🇪🇸
I am grateful to Prime Minister @andyburnham for making his first foreign visit specifically to Ukraine, on the anniversary of the restoration of our independence.
Our partnership with the UK is special for Ukraine – we have built an unprecedentedly strong and friendly dialogue that we can certainly be proud of. It was an honor, on behalf of the Ukrainian people, to present Andy with the first new state distinction – “Gratitude of the Ukrainian People,” awarded to the people of the United Kingdom. And today we are expanding our cooperation even further – Ukraine and the United Kingdom will develop their partnership in the field of artificial intelligence. We signed the relevant declaration today.
During our meeting today, we discussed the full range of our cooperation – licenses to produce Storm Shadows, assistance with insurance in the Ukrainian market, how to ensure Ukraine’s financial resilience, diplomacy, and other issues. We value the fact that the UK’s course remains unchanged – full support for Ukraine and our defense. Thank you, Andy! Thank you, Great Britain!
Prime Minister @andyburnham and Foreign Secretary @Ed_Miliband : how much longer will Britain remain silent?
For three years the father of my two sons, and Pakistan’s former Prime Minister, Imran Khan, has been brutally penalised by his political opponents, in a personal vendetta by Army Chief, Asim Munir, which according to the UN, amounts to torture and which is now taking a potentially fatal toll on his physical and mental health.
He has endured 3 years of solitary confinement. For nearly ten months now his family has been denied contact with him. He has been deprived of the most basic human contact, denied access to books, lawyers and doctors.
The international human-rights standards are unequivocal. Under the UN’s Nelson Mandela Rules, solitary confinement lasting more than 15 consecutive days is prohibited and amounts to torture.
He has endured this treatment not for 15 days, but for three years.
Pakistan’s own Supreme Court has now intervened: ordering comprehensive medical treatment, access to his personal doctor, regular family visits and twice-weekly calls with his sons.
Yet those orders are being defied.
This is no longer simply a Pakistani political matter. It is a human-rights emergency.
He has deep and lifelong ties to Britain. He studied at Oxford University, captained Oxford University cricket and spent years playing county cricket in England. His relationship with this country stretches back more than half a century. His charitable activities were internationally recognised, and include building the only free cancer hospital in Pakistan as well as a university.
His sons, my two boys, Sulaiman and Kasim, are British citizens. They have been forced to watch their father’s health decline from thousands of miles away, prevented from visiting him, denied visas, publicly threatened by government officials with arrest themselves, and even denied court-mandated regular phone calls.
I have repeatedly appealed to the UK government to intervene. Purported attempts at back channelling have evidently failed. The previous Foreign Secretary @DavidLammy informed me in writing that Britain would not intervene if my sons, British citizens, are arrested when they travel to Pakistan to visit their father.
@FCDOGovUK: Britain must now speak out publicly and unequivocally. Demand that Pakistan comply with its own Supreme Court; restore Imran Khan’s medical access, his right to see his family, end his prolonged isolation and uphold his fundamental human rights.
Pakistan is a Commonwealth country. Britain has a long and proud tradition of standing against arbitrary detention, inhumane treatment and the denial of fundamental rights. Those principles mean very little if we invoke them only selectively and neglect them when inconvenient.
This an appeal to the new Burnham government to please now do the right thing.
🇺🇸US: "Canada will collapse without United States of America"
🇨🇦Canada: "Our leader has PhDs in economics and ran central banks. Yours bankrupted casinos and made $40T debt." 🔥🤣
@instagram@Meta my Instagram account got hacked and has now been disabled, which has then caused EVERYTHING associated to Meta (Facebook, Insta, Threads) to all disappear. I tried to appeal this but no options were available to add comments. How do I get my accounts back?
From the Norwegian royal court: King Harald's condition has worsened over the weekend. His Majesty is receiving antibiotics for a bloodstream bacterial infection and has responded to this treatment.
