The #HS2 facts haven't changed, costs always exceeded benefits, the plan was sexed up. On 28.2.11 I said on @R4today that it would be cancelled but only after £bns squandered. The final outcome is even worse. Enquiry needed.
@JudyHobson01@BBCNWT The HS2 mess is because no senior politician looked closely at the Mar 2010 paper, which had the wrong spec, fiddled the figures on benefits & costs and misled on capacity. In Feb 2011 I said on R4 Today it would be cancelled but only after £bns squandered
HS2 didn't just fiddle the figures on the business case, they did the same on the environment. The #HS2 nature loss sums are wrong say the @WildlifeTrusts#ReThinkHS2. Sign the Open Letter: https://t.co/eyqv5XFeIq
It was clear when @KwasiKwarteng was on the transport select committee he could be easily hoodwinked by a dodgy (HS2) business plan (costs x3 and benefits slashed since then). But now we're completely screwed
@HS2ltd@HS2 Is an economic disaster. Rail experts estimated that there were 50p of benefits for every £1 invested. That was before costs tripled to around £100bn.
@HS2ltd Funny then that the Green Party oppose HS2. Or maybe they have a more independent and trustworthy perspective? For example, recognising that HS2 will not impact domestic flights in the UK.
"The village of Burton Green looks like a war zone while the work goes on .. Although Mother Nature will help to heal the landscape one way or another in future just like she always does, many will still lament the loss of ancient hedgerows and woodlands."

@HS2ltd Almost all transfers, according to @HS2 itself, are expected to be from lower carbon conventional rail. There is a reason why the Green Party are against HS2.
@IRAndyB@mcahs2@BBCTomEdwards The BCR is a good way to compare alternatives especially if the externalities you mention are included. Guess what, HS2 is the pretty much the worst way to improve speed and capacity and cut carbon.
@WilliamBarter1 @Beeron1030 @HS2 How arrogant! I commissioned it and wrote the editorial! Clearly you don't remember it. The point is that if Paddington or commuter lines are the problem, #HS2 starts in the wrong place.
