It’s been 11 years (22/09/2015) since Israeli soldiers killed Palestinian schoolgirl, Hadeel al-Hashlamon, at a military checkpoint in Occupied West Bank for refusing to take off her Niqab.

ONE MAN. ONE MOSQUE. CENTURIES OF HISTORY.

A lone man standing between the police and the Shahi Masjid of Ujjain. The mosque has become the centre of a heated dispute over the removal of a portion of the structure for road widening ahead of Simhastha 2028.

The Madhya Pradesh High Court had dismissed petitions challenging the proposed removal on September 9, while protests erupted again as work began.

The mosque’s management says the Shahi Masjid dates back to 1390, which would make it more than six centuries old. Historical documentation cited in recent reporting confirms the mosque’s presence by the 20th century, although the precise 1390 origin remains a claim by the mosque management rather than an independently established fact.

For those who worship there, it is not simply a building. It is a place of prayer, memory, community and belonging.

Development is important. But so are heritage, faith, dialogue and the peaceful resolution of disputes.

A mosque can be rebuilt. But the history, memories and emotions attached to a centuries-old place cannot simply be erased.

Awami and Hindutva propagandists are portraying a suspected suicide as a communal incident.

Journalist Pulak Chaterjee was found hanging inside the Samakal bureau office in Barishal. He left Samakal 2 years ago but retained the office key and regularly came to spend time there. Videos show the door was locked from inside and had to be broken open to enter.

Five suicide notes were found, including notes addressed to his wife, daughter, son and current bureau in-charge Sumon. In the notes, he referred to his long-term illness and the suffering he had been going through. He also mentioned seeking treatment in India but said he could not recover despite the treatment.

In the note addressed to Sumon, he apologised for embarrassing him, recalled their roughly 15 years of working together and asked him to forgive any mistakes he may have made. He also requested Sumon to collect his unpaid dues from Samakal, if possible, and hand the money to his wife.

His wife, unable to reach him by phone, contacted current bureau incharge Sumon, who came in the evening and saw him hanging through the gap. Police were then called and the door was broken open to enter inside in presence of the police and journalists.

The five suicide notes and the room being locked from inside indicate that the suspicious death was a suspected suicide.

However, Awami and Hindutva propagandists are portraying it communally.

Forced exodus of Sikhs from Indian occupied Punjab is a much more serious matter than it looks .. It’s a classic example of ethnic cleansing .

There are serious questions for Sikhs as they are to be blamed for what happened to Punjab in 19th century.

They had no true representation in partition as loyalty of master Tara Singh and co was highly questionable and it wasn’t just about Tara Singh, the hate provoked against Muslims was well thought out, systematic and had socio-political objectives manifested in 1947.

Beyond the rivers of blood and lasting trauma, Punjabi Muslims got their homeland alhamdulillah. What did Sikhs get ? Denial of their religious identity ? Genocide ?

If exodus of Sikhs from Indian Punjab continued, their dream of freedom will just exist in history books in Sikh diaspora and it’s a matter of a generation only.
