Excellent FT piece on Somaliland. A rare homegrown success story: institutions, businesses and stability built by Somalilanders themselves despite decades of isolation. Worth a read.

If Villa Somalia is capable of strategic thinking it would consider extending Somalia's full recognition to Somaliland.
Here are some of the benefits of Somalia recognising Somaliland.
Somaliland has learnt how to cope with disappointment and bounce back.
Crucially, Somaliland has demonstrated ability to turn adversity into opportunity.
In the course of the last 30 years, It proved its resilience, kept on doing the right thing to consolidate its internal stability, social cohesion and democratic state-building.
Today, it has a good chance of achieving international recognition.
In the plausible event Israel's recognition does not generate the sufficient diplomatic cascade in favour of its recognition, you can be sure Somaliland will not implode, nor will it self-immolate in despair.
The typical expected response, characteristic of its maturity and philosophical mindset, is to take disappointment well in its stride and maintain focus on its state-building.
"The world will not end if we are not recognised. There is tomorrow," is a refrain I constantly hear whenever I visit Somaliland.
This positive and philosophical mindset is Somaliland's greatest social capital and its beating heart - the source of its extraordinary strength and mental fortitude.

@Awliyo1911 I know him and can confirm this is true. He got his visa from the German Embassy in Nairobi. I’ve also attached a screenshot from the German Embassy in Ethiopia that shows applicants from Somaliland must apply through the Nairobi Embassy.

Strong words from Sen. Ted Cruz in Fox News:
“There is a very real opportunity that President Trump will recognize Somaliland during this administration.”
“President Trump is bringing a new era of clarity in American national security, after four years of the Biden administration rewarding our enemies and punishing our allies, and recognizing Somaliland should be part of this new era.”

Dear @realDonaldTrump
This is your Roosevelt moment on the Red Sea! As a Somaliland-born founder of WorldRemit & former UN whistleblower on Somalia aid corruption, I urge you to recognize Somaliland’s independence in exchange for exclusive access to Berbera’s military base — a low-cost win over China’s gains & Somalia’s $50B failure.
