…but for choosing the Constitution over political pressure.

🇺🇸 Trump officials demanded the names of foreign students involved in protests — hinting at deportation. Harvard refused, even with $2B in funding at risk.

Then came the wishlist:
▪️ “American values” screening
▪️ Crackdowns on protest
▪️ Mandated “viewpoint diversity”
▪️ Gov��t oversight of departments

⚠️ This isn’t about safety.
It’s about political control.
🎓 Universities exist to challenge power — not echo it.
When governments dictate thought, democracy erodes.

🍁 Canada isn’t immune:
We’ve seen:
🔹 Research tied to “free speech” tests
🔹 Student protests labeled “hate marches”
🔹 Efforts to erase “woke ideology” from institutions

🛑 The U.S. just cut 10,000+ public health jobs — from the CDC, NIH & FDA.

That includes scientists tracking disease 🧪, developing vaccines 💉, and leading breakthrough research 🔬.

🌎 This isn’t just an American issue. Canada relies on U.S. genomic data, clinical trials & outbreak coordination.

But in our own political climate, we’ve seen rhetoric that questions their value.

We've heard talk of cutting funding, shrinking government, and “streamlining” science — words that sound reasonable, until you realize what they actually erase.

🛑 Free speech is under attack — and history warns us what happens next.
In the U.S., we’re seeing:
🇺🇸 Columbia & Penn defunded
🚫 Student protestors threatened with deportation
💰 Funding tied to ideological conformity
🧠 AI surveillance of international students’ social media

This isn’t new. It’s the authoritarian playbook — used by Stalin, Pinochet, Erdogan, Modi, etc.
It starts with silencing students, defunding the press, surveilling dissenters, & calling critics dangerous.

🇨🇦 Why it matters in Canada:
📺 Proposals to defund & discredit the CBC
📰 Leaders refusing to engage with The Canadian Press & Global
🏫 Tying university funding to speech policies & mandating dissent tracking
These moves weaken democracy’s foundations:
— Free press
— Public education
— Student activism

📚History teaches us:
1️⃣️It's never just about free speech— other rights fall fast
2️⃣ Universities are always first targets
3️⃣ Fear & nationalism are tools

🗣️ Free speech means dissent. It means asking hard questions. It means imagining better.

Canada heads into another election season, offering a moment to reflect on nearly a decade of Justin Trudeau's leadership. From slashing child poverty by 40% to $10-a-day childcare to laying the groundwork to modernize our energy grid, some progress is clear. But what about housing, healthcare, climate, and economic innovation? Big gaps remain.

Housing feels unattainable. Healthcare is fraying. The OECD predicts we'll lag G7 peers by 2030 unless we reimagine our economy and dismantle oligopolies. Carbon pricing laid the groundwork, but we need bold strategies for growth and decarbonization.
