This man was arrested in Egypt because he converted from Islam to Christianity.

An Egyptian man is now facing terrorism charges — simply for trying to legally declare his Christian faith on his national ID card.

Said Mansour Abdelrazek converted from Islam to Christianity around 2016 and joined the Russian Orthodox Church.

In July 2025, he went to a police station in Cairo to request the official religious change on his ID documents — something Egyptian law permits for recognized faiths (Islam, Christianity, or Judaism).

He was arrested on the spot.

Egyptian authorities charged him with:
• Joining a terrorist organization
• Stirring public unrest
• Spreading false news

His case has been referred to Egypt’s First Criminal Terrorism Circuit Court. His trial is scheduled to begin this Monday, April 21.

This is the reality facing Christian converts in Egypt, even when they follow the legal process.
