I often teach the a few core principles of what makes ICU decision making different from treating what appears to be similar problems on the med-surg floors. Here are a few principles I emphasize, in no particular order...🧵
I couldn’t agree with this more. I wish this was easily covered by insurance.
The next shift in medicine will be towards preventing the diseases we have become experts in treating.
More doctors should prescribe exercise to help treat disease.
Certified personal trainers should be standard among a team of healthcare staff members.
'Health' insurance should actually pay for healthy services & items such as group fitness classes & walking shoes.
@olsonplanner We haven’t been able to do this, so instead we buy a local fruit and veggie csa for the summer and give the residency $100 for snacks from BJ’s every month to stock their fridge.
@olsonplanner I talk about this with my residents. It is really an important part of your physical and mental health. That being said, we should just be feeding them. I wish our nutritionists would consult with each department for allergies and the hospital drop lunch every day in their lounge
My amazing husband got to talk with Kai Ryssdal! He is such a kind, intelligent, thoughtful person. @erichendersonMD@DartmouthHealth

Good luck! When mentoring your goal is not to make someone like you but to help them find their own path. Not everyone is trying to climb the ladder- it’s ok to be happy where you are. Mentors can give mentees the permission to say no.
Congratulations to Dr. Herrick for his promotion to Associate Professor! You are a leader in our field, and we are so happy to see your hard work recognized. The department is so proud of you (especially the person who tweets on behalf of us).

I love this. I know so many of us find purpose and happiness from our work- and this is wonderful. But rest, recovery and joy outside of work is so important. Trying to avoid the imbalance.
