Hamilton, ON, citizens know what our Union and Local 107 members have known for a long time: outsourcing public transit is bad for transit, riders, and communities. https://t.co/lKQmBt1AXw #canlab@OFLabour
"“It would seem that even among people who may not have supported the concept of an LRT to begin with, now that it’s coming, would rather have the HSR operate it than some unknown private corporation,” said Anthony Marco, Hamilton and District Labour Council president."
Today we held a press conference where local leaders spoke on city council's upcoming decision regarding LRT operations.
We said it in 2014, we said it in 2017, and we're saying it again: we need to keep transit public in this city.
This morning, @atu_canada & @keeptransitpub Coalition held a press conference urging City Council to vote down the staff recommendation to give into the pressure to privatize the operation and maintenance of the LRT. @CameronKroetsch and @NrinderWard3 1/ #HamOnt
Not surprised that 67% of those surveyed support the City operating LRT. I’ll be bringing back my amendment to recommend just that to Metrolinx at the April 17 meeting of the General Issues Committee. I hope my Council colleagues will support keeping transit public. #HamOnt
The solution to #HamOnt area rating for transit is simple...end area rating for transit.
Or if we really need a committee solution for transportation equity city wide - start area rating for roads.
