@Guild_1775@DineshDSouza For others. Therefore, as any man has been created to one or the other of these ends, we speak of him as predestined to life or to death."
@Guild_1775@DineshDSouza From the Institutes...sounds like double p to me:
"We call predestination God’s eternal decree, by which he compacted with himself what he willed to become of each man. For all are not created in equal condition; rather, eternal life is foreordained for some, eternal damnation
@Protestia This is one of the many reasons protestantism is so dangerous; old heresies from the early church period keep getting dug up and presented as new.
@TrevorSheatz I mean, Jesus was in no position to baptize the Good Thief on the cross. That doesn't mean it isn't the normal means of receiving saving grace.
@DBryanRhodes I haven't seen it in a while but, my impression was that it advocated for the liberal arts vs the more utilitarian subjects. That if we don't give primacy to the fields that are pursued for their own sake (like art or the study of literature) above what is primarily advantageous
@DineshDSouza Aquinas held that humans are responsible for resisting God's grace but salvation is due to God's power alone. We cannot go to heaven on our own power, but we do go to hell that way.
@DineshDSouza We can say that Christ died for all while simultaneously holding that He elected some for eternal life. MT 22:14 - "Many are called, but few are chosen."
@Guild_1775@DineshDSouza The Catholic Church, as explained by Aquinas, also upholds the doctrine of election, just not "double predestination", which is where Calvin veered off into heresy.
@Catholicizm1 I've never, knowingly, been in this situation. If the couple tries to marry invalidly, I wouldn't know unless I'm close with them and I can't think of a situation like this. I have run into this with gay weddings, however, which is always an easy "no".
@Olking07 It will never "feel" like enough. Speaking for myself, there will always be the threat of a market crash or unexpected major expense. The question is whether I am willing to make it "be" enough.
