They are responses to overwhelming stress and our needs being violated and/or not met.

🧵This week the DWP published "The Impact of Fluctuating Conditions on Assessment" report. It found that the DWP disability application & assessment processes caused "degrees of difficulty, frustration, fear, and a sense of inequality for applicants with such conditions."
This isn’t to say that autistic people can never overthink, rather that ‘over’thinking may not always be an appropriate label for the additional thinking that some of us do at times; oftentimes our additional thinking may actually be proportional to the situation - and necessary.
Autistic people are often told we’re overthinking when in reality we’re wisely giving something some extra thought because we may need to in order to: feel prepared; communicate successfully; protect our unique needs; and/or navigate/achieve what we need, want or are expected to.

Don’t tell neurodivergent children and adults to ‘apply themselves’, because they already are. Instead, ‘apply’ some adjustments by asking them how you can best support them to succeed.
Fucking hell. A (mainstream, popular) photography company offered parents the chance to buy a school photo that didn’t include the disabled children. It really is a reminder just how much some of the public believe disabled people should be wiped from society.
