Continental Army officer, Delegate to the Federal Convention of 1787, Treasury Secretary, U.S. Senator from NY, 1805-1809, 4th President of the USA, 1809-1813
@PrezWisdom There were no popular votes in 1788 or 1792, I did actively campaign to secure all of New York's electoral votes for His Excellency, George Washington.
He won unanimously both times.
@Emolclause@realDonaldTrump He was blamed for the Depression by many of the people at the time, but its causes were many and varied. It was his inability to do anything about it, and his aloof refusal to rally the country, that led to him being "the most hated man in America."
The thing that irritated me most about Thomas Jefferson is that he was the epitome of graciousness and civility in person - all the while employing the most vile slanderers in the country to attack his political rivals.
At least I wrote my own attack essays!
@jjfThompson@mikepratt There were eight officers from Virginia who held the rank of Colonel in 1861. Seven of them kept their oath to the Union and fought to preserve it. Only one joined the rebellion - Robert E. Lee.
@HistoryWJacob Kuntsler's version is the most realistic, but the Leutze painting is perhaps the most inspiring. (I'll never forget how cold it was that night!!!)
A carefully managed, regularly paid national debt is a national blessing. The more people you owe, the more people have a vested interest in your financial success. But the situation I see in America today has gone beyond anything we Founders ever intended.
It has to be fixed.
@Kur0sh_@HistoryWJacob I made sure that all those bonds were redeemed at full face value as party of my plan for the funding and assumption of the nation's debts.
