BREAKING NEWS
The 2023 #NobelPrize in Physiology or Medicine has been awarded to Katalin Karikó and Drew Weissman for their discoveries concerning nucleoside base modifications that enabled the development of effective mRNA vaccines against COVID-19.
Are neural oscillations an emergent property of the brain? My two cents: sure, but not in the ordinary sense.
When I think of emergence I think of the V-shape in a flock of birds, or life as emerging from matter undergoing biological processes.

Very happy to announce the publication of my first first-author paper in @CellReports!
We find that ramping and phasic dopamine neuron activity reflect reward prediction error, improving goal-directed navigation.

Wellcome and anti-racism update:
In June 2020, Wellcome publicly recognised that it had perpetuated racism and pledged to tackle racism as an organisation.
Unfortunately, we’ve fallen short of the commitments we made. 1/10
The #claustrum (CLA) is connected with many brain areas BUT we don’t know all the connectivity rules for single neurons at the functional level. We found that CLA INTEGRATES.

New paper out in eEneuro. We really wanted to know whether or not coordination between the hippocampus and prefrontal cortex was different at the poles while learning a dorsal hippocampus dependent spatial task.
Nice that this piece of the puzzle came out. Angular speed cells in the entorhinal cortex were always a missing link in our understanding of attractor networks for grid cell generation

Excited to be going to Lisbon for @CosyneMeeting! 🥳
Come say hi and visit my poster to learn about ramping dopamine RPEs that improve goal-directed navigation (III-092; Sat 19th March) #COSYNE2022 🧠
The 8 year old is learning Python, and after a dealing with a syntax bug she asks: “If the computer knows I’m missing a semicolon here, why won’t it add it itself?”
I don’t know. I really don’t know.
From hearing to listening: what happens in the brain when focusing on sound?
In our new paper, we show how the activity of neurons in 4 nuclei along the mouse auditory pathway changes during listening.
Super proud of our latest work, @tania_barkat!

Thrilled to share that our paper, “Feature selectivity can explain mismatch signals in mouse visual cortex”, with @Tomaso_85 is now published in Cell Reports (1/3) https://t.co/oMg3m488XA
Rat labs of the world! We (J. Paglia, @pearlsaldanha, J.G. Fuglstad) present a toolkit that takes you from simple histology to 2D and 3D maps showing where you recorded or where your virus expressed! #Neuropixels@KISNeuro@RCN_Norway https://t.co/6lLPWVhp9J
We developed TRACER - an #OpenSource toolkit for reconstructing anatomical coordinates in rats!
