I wish more folks understood disabilities can happen at any time in a person's life. They can be temporary, episodic, or permanent, while varying in severity. When you are not prioritizing accessibility, you are excluding people, whether you realize it or not.
I understand that children bring illness home. I have read the studies, especially re: SARS-C0V-2. And I have been alive for more than six decades so I have seen it happen multitudes of times.
Here's the thing, though. Kids don't have agency. Adults do. Forcing kids into daycare or schools with no mitigations is the problem, not the kids. The governments, "public health," school boards, etc., THEY are the problem and that's why the kids keep getting sick, and why they keep bringing illnesses home. /1
No, anorexia involves denying ones own body. trans people are very (painfully) aware of their own body. Affirming anorexia would be telling someone who thinks they are fat that they are thin. Affirming gender is affirming that the person doesn't want their sexual characteristics, when in fact they DO have them.
the person with gender dysphoria is VERY AWARE that they are not their preferred sexual appearance. They can desscrib their own appearance very accurately and are aware that what they feel they are does not match what they are. This is the complete opposite of what happens in anorexia.
This "anorexia - we don't affirm that" "body dysmorphia - we don't affirm that" "schizophrenia - we don't affirm that" counter to gender dysphoria is stupid and backwards. Erase it from your head.
All three involve unrealistic interpretations of the world. People with gender dysphoria have a realistic view of their body (unlike anorexia), a realistic view of the approach that are available to them to change the shape/appearance of their body (unlike body dysmorphia), have realistic responses to the outcomes of those approaches (unlike body dysmorphia), and have capacity/reality testing (unlike in schizophrenia, when delusions are running the show).
The gender dysmorphic person is COMPLETELY GROUNDED IN REALITY. They are struggling to reconcile how they appear vs how they wish to appear, and they hate their appearance because of a REALISTIC appreciation of their gender.
For example, natal girls with gender dysphoria and small breasts are (generally) quite happy to use tight clothing to solve their appearance, and rarely request any medical/surgical treatments. Or, if breast surgery is done, the trans person is satisfied with the result (at a very high rate!!!) In body dysmorphic disorder, the person's dysmorphia FOLLOWS THEIR ALTERATIONS - resulting in an endless loop of surgeries beyond realistic expectation, to the point of harmful self-mutilation.
The thoughtless, careless, and inaccurate view that trans people "don't see reality" is rejected by the very definition of their dysphoria. Their realistic view of their body does not feel right to them, it is not what they want, and they are usually willing to try all sorts of REASONABLE and ACHIEVABLE THINGS to modify it.
Explain this to me.
We have entire careers built on showing that exercise, diet, sleep, and other health behaviors can modestly attenuate age-related neurodegeneration. The effects are often small—2% more hippocampal volume here, a little more cortical thickness there, improvements in functional connectivity, etc.
And we celebrate it (rightfully). Millions of people exercise every day chasing those gains—including people living with Parkinson’s.
But suggest wearing a mask to reduce repeated exposure to a virus with growing evidence of long-term neurological and cognitive consequences, and suddenly many of the same “health behavior” experts are like:
“Yeah… I’m not doing that.”
The disconnect is fascinating.
“I worked at a daycare for 3 months and got strep 5 times, then bronchitis, then double pneumonia.
Because every single day there was a sick toddler with green snot in class.”
Kids are Covid super spreaders. Parents and caregivers around small kids carry the highest risk for repeated infections and Long Covid.
This is not just a cold. It is destroying lives.
When will we protect them and us?
Trans people have existed in every society throughout every age which very much indicates that trans people are a naturally occurring variety of human. Here Daniel explains the biology of being trans. Being trans is not an ideology but being transphobic certainly is.
This man murdered his pregnant wife then strangled both his daughters and threw them in a water tank. This is the picture they use when they speak about him. Privilege is really wild to me.
Basically i love how every study shows that students do better with less homework and workers perform better with more vacation days and shorter shifts, yet we do the exact opposite because of outdated, guilt-driven “work is suffering” values and toxic hustle culture.
Disabled Canadians are furious. A pathetic $4.20/mo increase to the Canada Disability Benefit is a slap in the face. 🤬
Worse, most can't even access it. The gov't locked it behind the complex DTC gate, trapping thousands in deep poverty.
Livable income now!

„Frauen reden mehr als Männer“
Eine aktuelle Studie ergab, dass Männer die Gesprächsanteile als gleichberechtigt empfanden, wenn Frauen 15 % der Zeit sprachen (Männer 85 %). Wenn Frauen hingegen 30 % der Zeit sprachen, empfanden Männer dies als eine Dominanz der Frauen.
😩 I’ve been seeing a lot of this lately. Everyone is burnt out.
Myself included.
I’d suggest taking a break and coming back refreshed with a different perspective.
I think I gave up trying to change minds a while back…
I’m here because this is one of the only places where there are like-minded people who want to talk about staying alive, preserving long-term health, protecting ourselves from harmful environmental hazards, and keeping a pulse on science, innovation, climate change, and everything else that shapes our future.
I’m not going anywhere, but every summer is a reminder that 99.9% of the world doesn’t seem to give a shit that the world..and everything in it…is going to shit. It’s not just a seasonal shitfest. It’s year-round.
But when the heat and illness are hitting people square in the face, and they do and say nothing… they just move on.
I think those of us who are paying attention end up sharing a collective sense of disgust, disappointment, and dread… and our social media allergies start acting up. 😉😜
Let me get this straight once & for all.
You do not trust the governments who are enforcing intrusive authoritarian policies designed to create a surveillance state, destroying your privacy & freedom.
But you do trust them, unquestionably, when they say COVID is over?
This is what’s called Shifting Baseline Syndrome.
I’ve spoken about this before; in the below thread.
When things slowly shift downwards, people forget what real normal was like, and adapt to an ever worsening new normal.
Is social media damaging to some kids, yup! But covid is damaging to every kid, and it’s far more rampant than social media. Facebook accounts aren’t contagious.
No kids are getting instant brain damage from one post on Instagram. If we care about kids we will worry about airborne threats to their health with as much publicity as we are worrying about cell phones and Snapchat.
Ban Covid in kids of all ages, then I’ll take the claim of caring about them more seriously.
I was pregnant first week of March 2020 prior to lockdowns when the first Covid wave hit, and something inside me broke.
One day I was me. The next, my brain was on fire.
Encephalitis, I now know, but back then no doctor would touch it. They patted my belly and blamed “pregnancy hormones.”“Totally normal,” doctors said. I was left to drown.
Suddenly I couldn’t turn off. Fight or flight became my only setting.
Panic, paranoia, raw anger, and bone deep fear flooded every second.
I felt no hunger, fatigue or pain. Just an endless electric scream in my nervous system.
My blood pressure skyrocketed for the first time in my life. Medical system called it “preeclampsia” and after birth never checked my blood pressure again.
My hair fell out in clumps. Nightmares clawed through whatever scraps of sleep I managed.
I was irritable, on edge, impossible to be around.
Inside our house it was pure chaos. I couldn’t control the emotions ripping out of me no matter how hard I tried. My marriage hung by a thread. We nearly ended it all right there in the middle of that invisible storm that no one believes ever occurred.
I had a dear friend offer me supplements for “post partum depression” and although she meant well, the offer stung because no one truly understood what Covid was doing to me.
And this is the part that still chills me.
Because this is exactly how Long Covid gets erased.
Doctors see a woman pregnant or with young children or in their 30’s or older and reach for “hormones” or “perimenopause.”
Patients live through Covid hell and get told it’s just life.
Covid takes a hold of you, steals pieces of your mind and body, and society files it under “woman problems.”
I lived the proof.I am the proof.
See how easy it is to miss the real monster hiding in plain sight?
women: “if men disappeared for one week, we could FINALLY breathe... calm our nervous systems... walk alone at 3 AM, not get creepy comments about our looks constantly... life would be AMAZING, with an incredible sisterhood!”
men: “but who would protect you?”
women: “protect us… from who?”
I saw a post on Reddit that said that “The underlying purpose of AI is to allow wealth to access skill while removing from the skilled the ability to access wealth.” And I don’t think I’ve ever seen AI described so incisively.
Teen daughter had sex education today where all pupils put a condom on a dildo.
One of the girls asked: ‘Why do girls need to learn this?’ And the teacher said: ‘Well, in case the man doesn’t know how to do it.’
Apparently my daughter then said: ‘Why the hell would we be with a man who doesn’t know how to put a condom on?’
I could not be more proud. 😂😂😂
I don't think a lot of people know or realize this - not only were Queer people victims of the Holocaust, when everyone else was freed, Queer people were *re-imprisoned*
Imagine what that must have felt like.
Non-disabled people don’t understand how expensive it is to be disabled. The government doesn’t give us everything for free. Medications, hundreds of dollars. Mobility aids could be tens of thousands. Medical equipment, hundreds of thousands. That’s just the necessary stuff.
