@LizOfficer My goal: All of my children will have a skill that allows them to earn sufficient income to support themselves fully by the end of high school.
My opinion: Coding is unlikely to be the skill that leads to that outcome unless a child initiates an interest in it early on.
@FrugalPharm I have two kiddos that love coloring/art/play-dough and one who hates it. However all 3 love block based play (lego/dupolo depending on age) and dancing.
@FemmeCents It does. I took away pacifier around the same time, but she survived. 2-3 weeks of interruptions and needing so much extra cuddle time, but we managed.
@GreggGreg@avocadogreta @jeremiahjm +1 on this advice. I have a blood pressure cuff because my bp seems to track right on the border between normal and the gray zone. As long as it doesn't rise, I'm happy with it, otherwise I'll consider medication since lifestyle doesn't seem to help.
@OurTable4Two When you don't have children, you don't automatically think of Daniel Tiger songs to associate with adult feelings. But as the case may be, you can feel two things at the same time, and that's okay. https://t.co/uWbIDsyYuL
@Military_Dollar This is like a discount country club community. We considered something similar ($400 per month price tag), but ultimately decided it wasn't worthwhile, especially because we can get a nice gym membership for around $150 per month
My 7yo had to make a power point for his technology class, so I let him use my computer. My computer has preloaded design formats from my employer's marketing team. So... his dinosaur power point looks super professional (except the shattering glass transitions).
@FemmeCents Heavier topics, and especially denser histories or older fiction tends to take me a lot longer. But I was a book a day person before kids and when I was nursing.
@FemmeCents Most popular non-fiction can be consumed in about 2 hours. Pulp fiction is probably 6 hours. So a person with 3-4 hours of free time is easily hitting 5 non-fiction plus two fiction books per week.
@tortoise_happy We have been known to carry home 40+, but now limit the kids to 24 between the three of them. Usually 4-6 that our 6yo will read to himself, and the rest are read out loud books for the whole family.
@StephTheBlogger I also find this behavior super-annoying. One thing that has helped us (though not solved) is our "family marketing campaign" where we use consistent language for core values... including "Take Responsibility." We can ask, "Are you taking responsibility?" and our kids understand.
If you make it hard for people to pay you, you're not going to get paid as often as you should. By making it difficult to get paid, you're actually increasing the cost of transacting with you.
