📆Today marks 1 year since we joined @TrussellTrust to call on our party leaders to introduce an Essentials Guarantee in #UniversalCredit to ensure everyone has a protected minimum amount of support to afford the essentials.

Hunger isn't about lack of food, it's about lack of income.
Thanks so much to @MeantimeMediaCo for bringing to life the findings from our new Hunger in the UK research.

🧵 Millions of people across the UK, like Amanda, Kevin and Matt, are facing hunger.
Despite living in one of the wealthiest countries in the world, 1 in 7 people in the UK face hunger due to a lack of money.
But it doesn’t have to be this way for anyone.
We expect Universal Credit to support us when we fall on hard times, but after a decade of cuts and freezes, there's now a devastating gap between the income it provides and our living costs.
In one of the wealthiest countries in the world, #OurEssentials need to be guaranteed.
🧵 We live in one of the wealthiest countries in the world, and yet people in the UK are going without the essentials we all need to get by.
We can’t always deal with what life throws at us on our own, and we need a system in place that supports us all. ⤵️
No one should have to choose between the essentials.
Yet our food banks are facing their toughest winter ever, as more and more people are being forced to turn to them just to survive.
Please help us ensure we can be there for everyone who needs us 👉 https://t.co/hlzlNmU4sl
Do you agree that everyone should be able to afford the essentials?
Our food banks are seeing more people who are going without the essentials we all need to get by.
Stand with us and urge your MP to do more to support people on the lowest incomes 👉 https://t.co/opPh8Hfszp
We're hiring for a #CommsOfficer that will support me on a range of proactive activities and interventions that build public will for a future without the need for food banks.
Throw any Qs my way or share with anyone you think this would be great for!

It's simply not right that anyone in our society should be forced to turn to a food bank just to get by.
Could you help @TrussellTrust capture the public's attention and bring our narrative to the forefront of the national conversation in creative and intriguing ways?
I love this quote from one of the @CovidRealities participants in this @CPAGUK article by @ruthpatrick0 & Jim Kaufman: https://t.co/rpyME9Nd4R
Such a clear articulation of how much more supportive & empowering the social security system could be
We took the messages of people impacted by the #UniversalCredit cut straight to Parliament to show the Government how devastating a blow this is for millions across the UK.
@RishiSunak must use the #SpendingReview as a chance to right this wrong and reinstate the lifeline.
Hey @RishiSunak, earlier this month your government took £20 a week from the pockets of millions of families across the UK in the biggest cut to social security since WW2.
Take the opportunity to do the right thing tomorrow and reinstate this lifeline for millions across the UK.
“Poverty grinds away at your self-esteem and makes children feel worthless. Can you imagine not being able to take your child to the park because you can’t afford a bus fare?”

It would be shameful if the Chancellor decides to leave it to food banks to feed people and keep them warm this winter. Neglect is a strong word, but... The £20 cut was a choice. Keeping this lifeline is a better choice for anyone in power who has a conscience. #KeepTheLifeline
Yesterday, we took the concerns of people affected by the #UniversalCredit cut straight to Westminster, urging @RishiSunak to reverse this devastating decision in the upcoming #SpendingReview.
On 27 Oct he must choose to strengthen our social security system & #KeepTheLifeline.
Hey @RishiSunak did you get our messages? 📲
Yesterday we took nearly a thousand texts straight to Westminster, showing what the £20 a week cut to #UniversalCredit means to people, and why the Chancellor must choose to reverse this devastating decision at the #SpendingReview.
We’re in Westminster today delivering your text messages to Rishi! 📲
Your voice came through loud and clear: the UK Government must protect and support families with adequate social security and reinstate the £20 per week to #UniversalCredit.
#KeepTheLifeline
We agree, which is why we must strengthen our social security system by reinstating the £20 in #UniversalCredit
Share your thoughts: text the name ‘Rishi’, followed by your message, to 88080 (standard rate)
We’ll bring your message to Westminster this month!
#KeepTheLifeline
As @BBCMoreOrLess would ask, is this a big number?
Answer: emphatically no
5.5 million low income families will lose £20 a week next week
If this fund is split between them it would give them £1.75 a week back
Read our latest blog by Alex, who is currently receiving #UniversalCredit. This is the reality of the impact of the £20 cut, due to come into effect next Wednesday unless the Government chooses to #KeepTheLifeline. https://t.co/EG8pWc6a4f
Delighted to be joining @StMungos as their new Policy and Public Affairs Manager
Excited to be part of this unique opportunity to end rough sleeping for good!
In the face of a wave of unemployment, the Government is planning to cut the £20 uplift it rightly made to #UniversalCredit. Right now, we’re all seeking stability: sign our petition and urge the Government to do the right thing and #KeepTheLifeline 👇 https://t.co/BE5mH09GOE
"It's hard to see Mr Sunak refusing to listen. Certainly he should act." Cracking read from @RSylvesterTimes on how we need to #KeepTheLifeline. Today's unemployment figs show we cannot cut people’s incomes and cut families adrift. It certainly is time to act.
In today's @thetimes, @RSylvesterTimes argues that there is a clear political, economic and moral case for the Government to #KeepTheLifeline as #COVID19 infection rates rise and new restrictions are imposed. https://t.co/I6Tm6s5z8Y
