For two days in Addis Ababa, I joined the #IGAD#FRSP#Women Forum on #Agrifood Systems representing women agricultural cooperatives from Djibouti.
It was a valuable space bringing together women farmers, policymakers, the private sector, and partners from across the region to discuss how to strengthen women’s role in agrifood systems.
We spoke about access to land, finance and markets, climate-smart agriculture, and opportunities for women in agribusiness.
The forum closed with the adoption of the Terms of Reference for the IGAD Women Forum on Agrifood Systems, setting the foundation for a regional platform to support collaboration and women’s leadership.
Women are already at the heart of food systems. Their voices must also be part of the decisions shaping their future.

Rights. Justice. Action. For ALL Women and Girls.
This #InternationalWomensDay, we celebrate the courage of women and girls leading change to #EndFGM. To survivors who share their stories and shape this movement, your voices inspire action and bring us closer to a world free from violence.
Today, together with our partners @reproductivehealthnetwork and @ncpd_kenya , we launched the Her Health Project, an initiative designed to transform health systems to respond to the realities, rights, and futures of adolescent girls and young women in Kenya.
Together, we are advancing equitable access to quality sexual, reproductive, and maternal health services, strengthening youth-responsive care, and centering dignity, inclusion, and rights within health systems.

Ending FGM requires more than one entry point.
Change happens when efforts are layered, in public spaces, within households, and across generations, with different approaches designed for each level. A community-centred strategy recognises that beliefs are shaped in multiple places, and they shift differently depending on where conversations happen.
FGM cannot be treated as a stand-alone issue. In communities, it intersects with health, education, economic realities, and family structures. Integrating FGM into broader systems, from schools to health services to empowerment programmes, has strengthened both reach and impact.
As Joanne Hemmings reflected:
“Anywhere you can have a dialogue, you can integrate FGM. Dialogue is essential to ending FGM. To renegotiate behaviours, and heal. Dialogue repeated over time and depth to get to the real issues.”
From public forums to couple dialogues to homestead conversations that reflected polygamous family contexts, the approach adapted to lived realities. And that’s where deeper shifts in attitudes and beliefs began to take root.
