New preprint from my lab showing an artifact that is present in all multiband fMRI datasets. We can estimate and remove the artifact, which leads to several improvements in data quality and big changes in 2nd level t-stats

About 150 @NIH study sections have been cancelled at the last min wasting ~200,000 hours of scientists' unpaid time
Inefficient. Sloppy. Unprofessional.
If NIH wants to change the system, then do it. Or pause till you know what you are doing - don't waste scientists' time
Just spent 30 hours reviewing for an NIH study section set for Thurs—now postponed indefinitely. 20 other scientists did the same X multiple sections. Huge waste of time, resources, and funding, with real costs for science and economy. @realDonaldTrump admin is bad for everyone.
🔊 ATTN @NIH@NSF and VA funded scientists: love hearing about your papers here but please acknowledge UPFRONT that your beautiful science was enabled by federal funds
Please do the same when you give talks or lectures, AND during your interviews with lay media and podcasters
About a month after Donald Trump took office as the 47th US president, almost all grant-review meetings remain suspended at the US National Institutes of Health (NIH), preventing the world’s largest public funder of biomedical research from spending much of its US$47 billion annual budget.

@InquisitiveUrsa@beyerstein @The_Gilp All federal agencies pay the same IDCs to institutions and businesses. They all fall under the same negotiated rate agreement. Would’ve been trivial to have all agencies make this same announcement all at once
So NIH is capping indirect costs, but the rate agreements institutions have apply to all federal agencies.
So what about NASA indirect costs. @elonmusk going to cap those too?
Just curious
When you read about the coastguard admiral being *evicted* from her home with 3 hours notice, bear in mind that 'ordinary Americans' followed the order to carry out that eviction.
None of them said "this is crazy" and quit.
Very few will.
Just gotta repeat it:
They have not found a single dollar of fraud. They are just calling spending they don’t like “fraud,” and violating the Constitution to impound it.
@pitdesi Arguably it’s even worse to pretend $1.45 million is even close to enough for a 5-year study. That’s not even enough for direct costs most of the time, let alone including IDC
A lot of people are portraying USAID as some sort of bastion of looney DEI excesses. Let’s take a look at what the sudden arresting of their operation is doing to global health. Please read the thread (my thread, not Ryan James’):
@neubadah The only message we’ve received boils down to “we’ve hired a firm in DC to try to understand what’s going on, please keep submitting grants and progress reports, it might be hard to reach program officers and the regency staff”
