Ed Harpur, Bannow Island. Tones of gold, blue & grey. Rain, sun, wind & then flat calm all within a few hours; the barley’s at the mercy of the elements here. Ed’s very hopeful for this 2019 crop...
Barley grower Edward Harpur visited us with his family for a hands-on experience. He started his own distillation, of his own barley; tasted the spirit from his crop; and then sampled from the blood tub filled after last year's Bannow Island distillation. His mother approved!
We're now distilling barley from one of our more unusual terroirs: Ed Harpur's Bannow Island farm; Olympus crop grown on the Pill Ditch field. A sandy, loamy soil; good to work with. Despite the location, it's more sheltered than Martin Foley's farm by the Hook Lighthouse.
