Extremely sad day for #TamilNadu.

The #ParandurAirport project has been dropped, says the TVK Government.

Years of hard work and intense planning to give #Chennai the dual-runway Greenfield airport it desperately needs have been sacrificed at the altar of politics.

Industry experts understand the stakes.

Investment promotion agencies in neighbouring states will now quietly rejoice, saying: “Tamil Nadu has shot itself in the foot.”

Chennai’s growth and that of Tamil Nadu’s will now face a serious hurdle. We most urgently need a truly world-class international airport capable of handling large aircrafts, with two operational 4,000m+ parallel runways.

I find it extremely difficult to believe that the very officers who worked so hard on this project supported this decision. They know better than most that there is no better alternative option given the environmental and aviation concerns.

The #DMK Government explored every possible option to identify a 5,000+ acre parcel of land around Chennai with the least impact on villages, water bodies, agriculture and existing air traffic. Parandur was ultimately chosen because, after years of technical evaluation, it offered the least overall impact while meeting Chennai’s long-term aviation requirements.

The consequences go far beyond just an airport.

The entire industrial corridor from Poonamallee to Kanchipuram,which accounts for nearly 41% of India’s electronics exports, could have received a massive boost.

Better port connectivity, reliable water infrastructure for industry and direct global air connectivity could have boosted this region and TN into one of the world’s most important manufacturing hubs, creating at least a million new jobs over time.

All of that potential has now been put at risk for what appears to be plain politics.

Our Leader former CM @mkstalin, our LoP @Udhaystalin, the #DMK and I have always maintained that politicising industrial growth comes at a massive cost to the State’s future.

I urge Honourable @CMOTamilnadu @actorvijay to personally speak to senior officers, in private and ask them whether this is truly the right decision.

Do not let politics derail what could be the most important infrastructure project for Tamil Nadu’s future.

If there is genuinely no turning back, then the so-called alternative site must be identified within this year at the latest.

Chennai and Tamil Nadu MUST have a new world-class international airport within the next three years.

Let's hope leaders prefer progress over politics.

Tamil Nadu deserves better.

I have been pursuing this Political and Business Bucanneer for the past 15 years over a case of open and shut fraud

As telecom minister Maran, the bucanneer, installing a 1000 line secret Telephone exchange case in his home in the name of the Regional Manager of BSNL unknown to the system was a famous expose by me in the New Indian Express in 2010

He was using it for uplinking Sun TV progs and benefitting hundreds of crores. The secret phones were also national security breach as they could make any call to anyone without being monitored. At that time the DMK was in love relation with the biggest national security risk the LTTE

But the buccaneer with his money political power and media power delayed a case which could he completed in months by a decade

This is the 7th time the buccaneer telecom minister went to the supreme court to quash and/or delay the CBI probe into the fraud exposed in 2010

The case was investigated in 2007 by an honest inspector of CBI who used to go by scooter from Beasant Nagar to Shastry Bhavan in Chennai. He risked his life and asked for permission to file FIR.

But the UPA govt of which the DMK was a constituent prevented the CBI from registering FIR

I had to file a writ in Supreme court in 2014 to direct the CBI to file FIR

The buccaneer went to the High coourt and then to Supreme Court and almost got the case quashed with the then Attorney General almost colluding with them

The AG who had given opinion to govt that the secret phones were in breach of national security conceded in the court contrary to it

I had to write a scathing article to expose the Attorney

During the hearing then CJI even said it is after all 1.72 cr cable laying expenses and that can be paid by Marans and the case closed.

Then I wrote an article saying that it is not a case of cable laying expenses but secret telephone exchange of over 1000 lines installed at the ministers home and used for uplinking Sun TV progs (for which a secret cable laid at a cost of 1..72 cr) the benefit in which would be hundreds of crores

I also reminder the Supreme court that just months before the court had confirmed sentence on a clerk for accepting a bribe of Rs 265 declaring that corruption should not be tolerated

I wrote that if a clerk has to go jail for a bibe of rs 265 the higher the stature of the corrupt greater should be the punishment

That attempt to quash the case failed and the charges were framed.

Then a pliable trial court first discharged them.

I scathingly attacked the trial court order as perverse

The Madras High court set aside the perverse order and the buccaneer minister went to the supreme court.

The supreme court asked them to face the trial

They delayed the trial by several years and now the trial is over and all witnesses had been examined.

Then the buccaneer began another round of litigation to delay the trial by getting Madras HC to order that the present telecom secy be summoned as court witness .. an absolutely untenable order

The CBI came in appeal to the SC against that order and shockingly the AG who appeared for the CBI earlier appeared for the buccaneer!

Then in a detailed article the OpIndia recounted the whole case from the start and the role of the then AG and now Maran counsel

After the OpIndia article the then AG didn't appear in the case

The SC finally told Maran that the telecom secy may be called not as court witness but as defence witness.

What is the difference

If he is a defence witness his statements will be admissible against the accused

Not if he is a court witness

They will now.probably not call the telecom secy as defence witness

Hopefully the trial will conclude soon and justice will be done

....20 years after the fraud was discovered by CBI but blocked by UPA

....16 years after it was exposed by me in the New Indian Express

தமிழ்நாடு சட்டப்பேரவையில் 110 விதியின் கீழ் முதலமைச்சர் விஜய் அவர்கள் அனைத்து சட்டமன்ற உறுப்பினர்களுக்கும் இலவச மகிழுந்து வழங்கப்படும் எனவும், அதோடு தனி உதவியாளர் மற்றும் ஓட்டுநருக்கான ஊதியம், எரிபொருள் படி ஆகியவற்றுக்காக மாதம் ஒரு இலட்சம் ரூபாய்க் கூடுதலாக வழங்கப்படும் எனவும் அறிவித்துள்ளது அதிர்ச்சியளிக்கிறது.

மகிழுந்து இல்லாத சட்டமன்ற உறுப்பினர்களுக்கு மட்டும் அரசு மகிழுந்து வழங்கினால்கூட அதில் ஒரு நியாயம் உண்டு. ஆனால், தற்போது தேர்ந்தெடுக்கப்பட்டுள்ள சட்டமன்ற உறுப்பினர்களில் 190 சட்டமன்ற உறுப்பினர்களிடம் ஏற்கனவே சொந்தமாக மகிழுந்து உள்ளதாகத் தங்களின் வேட்புமனுவில் அவர்கள் குறிப்பிட்டிருக்கும் நிலையில், புதிதாக இலவச மகிழுந்து வழங்க வேண்டிய அவசியம் என்ன?

ஒரு மகிழுந்தின் விலை குறைந்தபட்சம் 30 இலட்சம் என்றாலும் 70 கோடி தேவைப்படுகிறது அதைத்தவிர, மாதம் ஒரு இலட்சம் ரூபாய் 234 உறுப்பினர்களுக்கும் வழங்குவதால் மேலும் ஆண்டிற்கு 28 கோடி ரூபாய் தேவை. இதுபோக எரிபொருள், வாகனப் பழுது என ஆண்டிற்கு பல நூறு கோடிகள் தேவைப்படுகிறது. அவையெல்லாம் யாருடைய வரிப்பணம்? இதுதான் மக்கள் பணத்தைத் தொடாத, வீணடிக்காத செயலா?

ஏற்கனவே சட்டமன்ற உறுப்பினர்களுக்கு வாகனப்படி 25000 ரூபாய் உட்பட, மாதம் ஒரு இலட்ச ரூபாய் சம்பளமாக வழங்கப்படுகிற நிலையில், ஆண்டுக்கு ஒரு இலட்சத்து 76 ஆயிரம் கோடி கடன் வாங்கும் நிலையில் கூடுதலாக மாதம் ஒரு இலட்சம் ரூபாய் சட்டமன்ற உறுப்பினர்களுக்கு வழங்க வேண்டிய தேவை என்ன?

பொதுப்பணித்துறை அமைச்சர் ஆதவ் அர்ஜூனா, நிதியமைச்சர் மரியவில்சன் உள்ளிட்ட பெரும் செல்வந்தர்களுக்கும் மக்கள் வரிப்பணத்தில் மகிழுந்து வழங்க வேண்டிய அவசியம் என்ன? அப்படியே உங்கள் சட்டமன்ற உறுப்பினர்கள் உங்களிடம் வாகனம் கேட்டால் உங்கள் சொந்த செலவிலோ உங்கள் கட்சி செலவிலோ வாங்கிக்கொடுங்கள். மக்கள் பணத்தை எடுத்து ஏன் தருகிறீர்கள்?

அனைத்துக்கட்சி உறுப்பினர்களுக்கும் வாகனம் வழங்கினால் இனி எந்தக் கட்சி உறுப்பினர் உங்களை எதிர்த்து பேசுவார்? ஆட்சி நிர்வாகச் செயல்பாடுகளில் ஏற்படும் குறைகளை எப்படி சுட்டிக்காட்டுவார்கள்? அரசை விமர்சிக்காமல் இருக்கக் கொடுக்கப்படும் மறைமுக கையூட்டா? இதுதான் ஊழல் இலஞ்சத்தை ஒழிக்கும் முறையா?

விவசாயிகள் அரும்பாடுபட்டு விளைய வைத்த நெல்லைப் பாதுகாக்க கிடங்குகள் இல்லை. வெட்டவெளியில் கொட்டி வீணாகிறது. அதனைப் பாதுகாக்க விவசாயிகள் கோரினால், வெறும் 10 கோடிக்கு தார்ப்பாய்களை தரும் தவெக அரசு, ஏற்கனவே ஒன்றுக்கு இரண்டு மகிழுந்து வைத்துள்ள தீயசக்தி, தூயசக்தி சட்டமன்ற உறுப்பினர்களுக்கும் சேர்த்து சொகுசு வாகனங்கள் வழங்க இத்தனை கோடிகளை வாரி இறைப்பது தேவைதானா?

மறைமுக மின்கட்டண உயர்வு, சொத்துவரி உயர்வு, பேருந்து கட்டண உயர்வு என மக்கள் பாதிக்கப்படுகையில் அதைச் சரி செய்யாமல் அவர்களின் பணத்தை எடுத்து இந்த ஊதாரித்தனம் தேவை தானா?

தேர்தல் பரப்புரையில் அனைத்து பெண்களுக்கும் மாதம் ரூபாய் 2500 உள்ளிட்ட பல வாக்குறுதிகள் அளித்துவிட்டு, ஆட்சிக்கு வந்தவுடன் வெள்ளை அறிக்கை வெளியிட்டு பணம் இல்லை என்றீர்கள். இப்போது சட்டமன்ற உறுப்பினர்களுக்கு மகிழுந்து வழங்க மட்டும் எங்கிருந்து பணம் வந்தது?

சட்டமன்ற உறுப்பினர்கள் மக்களின் சேவைக்கு வந்தார்களா? தங்களின் தேவையை நிறைவேற்றிக்கொள்ள வந்தார்களா? மக்கள் உதவிக்கு வந்த சட்டமன்ற உறுப்பினர்களுக்குத் தனியாக உதவியாளர் எதற்கு? அதற்குத் தனியே சம்பளம் எதற்கு?

அரசு அறிவிக்கும் எந்தவொரு திட்டத்தின் நன்மை தீமைகளையும் விவாதிப்பதற்கே சட்டமன்றம் உருவாக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது எனும் நிலையில், 110 விதி என்ற பெயரில் புதிய திட்டங்களைச் சட்டமன்றத்திலேயே அறிவித்துவிட்டு, அதைப்பற்றி யாரும் எவ்வித விமர்சனமும் செய்யக்கூடாது என்பதுதான் சனநாயகமா? விமர்சனம் செய்யக்கூடாது ஆனால் கேட்கவே கூசும் அளவிற்கு முதலமைச்சரைப் புகழ்ந்து மட்டும் பேசலாமா?

மக்கள் வரிப்பணத்தை வீணடிக்கும் இதுபோன்ற திட்டங்களைக் கைவிட்டு ஆக்கப்பூர்வமான மக்கள் நலத் திட்டங்களை நடைமுறைப்படுத்த வேண்டுமென நாம் தமிழர் கட்சி சார்பாக வலியுறுத்துகிறேன்.
