🇸🇦🇾🇪 A Saudi cable stamped "Extremely Secret, Very Urgent" lays out an old plan to break the Houthis.

It was signed in 2012 by Salman, then defense minister and now king, and sent to a secret committee that has quietly run Saudi Arabia's Yemen policy for decades.

The plan was to look at arming tribes fighting the Houthis and turning other Shia Muslims in northern Yemen against them, without it ever looking like a religious war or a Saudi operation.

The money seems to have followed too, with other cables showing millions of riyals flowing to anti-Houthi fighters.

None of it stopped the Houthis, who took Yemen's capital in 2014 and still run most of the country today.

Saudi hasn't commented, and the leak lands just as the two sides are heading toward another fight, a reminder this feud goes back much further than most people think.
