Ren Massey, a Georgia psychologist, suggested bringing in line parents wary of gender-transition interventions by introducing the specter of a CPS call. “There are at least some child protective service workers who are willing to enforce the need for affirmation by parents, at least with social transition needs, names, pronouns, etc.,” Massey said. “Even letting parents know that if that’s true where you are practicing, that might get their attention a little bit.”

@bdquinn Yes - and emphasize bread & butter issues, how am I going to make life better for you. Keep as far away as possible from the activist groups.
@estherzelda0514 Getting the impression from the coverage that class was also a factor. Working class families, depressed areas of the country, more fortunate ppl looked away.
@LeorSapir Not a big fan of resolving issues by litigation, but so many gender medicine practitioners hv so completely failed to reasonably regulate themselves, & disclosure uncovers so much unprofessionalism, seems necessary at this pt.
@TastelessAlex And some of his ideas are unlikely to help, mt hurt. No-interest loans for first time buyers won’t build more housing, wl just drive inflation for existing stock. Ah well, Becerra it is.
@Wilson__Valdez Yep, all politics is nat’l now. Unpopular rhetoric and/or policies in CA or NY or DC reverberate thru whole country. Honestly sometimes wonder if Republicans fund ppl like Darializa.
@ChuckIsLucky@LeorSapir benefit from medical transition; & I don’t think there’s gd evidence abt how helpful less invasive forms of therapy are. But also true that transition is at best a serious intervention wh shd be used w great caution, and the field is a shoddy mess in the US.
@ChuckIsLucky@LeorSapir Yes, and we shd have vy robust long term follow up as well. I’m not sure the evidence wl 100% vindicate either “side.” The Cass rpt & even some of the more skeptical European studies note that some ppl, esp those w long-standing gender dysphoria, may…
@Simon__Bern@LeorSapir talk abt it like grownups is what we shd be pushing for. And gd evidence, when we have it, may not completely fit either side’s preferred beliefs. But still what we shd aim for.
@Simon__Bern@LeorSapir Yes, that evidence is irrelevant to how most ppl are treating the debate in the US rn is my point. But obvs it shdn’t be that way. And doesn’t have to be - several European countries hv done a better job than we have. An honest attempt to gather good data &…
America's surrender to Iran, for that is what it is, will accelerate the slide into global power vacuums, with more weapons, more war and more chaos, says @andreaskluth https://t.co/H4nxSG2vNC
@Noahpinion worse siloing in red areas. And primary elections seem now almost designed to promote the candidates farthest from the center. Mt add a third factor: the influence of activist groups on our politics.
@Noahpinion This, plus geographical sorting and primary elections increasingly dominated by the most extreme true believers. I’m generally liberal in my politics, but remarkable how many people in my blue bubble never even talk to someone more conservative. Even…
@LeorSapir long term outcomes, w detailed & consistent follow up? Some decent data coming out of Europe, but still limited; we’re a long way from having the info or the kinds of conversation needed.
@LeorSapir our current politics, is detailed & rigorously honest research and conversation - what are best ways to help ppl w gender dysphoria? When does medical transition help, when not? Can less invasive therapies like those used for body dysmorphia work? What are…
