Why portray an entire society this way and generalize one personal experience to a whole community? Notice that her mother belongs to the generation that lived under Siad Barre, when Somalia’s nationwide literacy campaign raised literacy from roughly 5% to nearly 70%.

What kind of men does she want Somali men to become? Gay?

Whenever you hear calls like this, what they are really targeting is the fierceness of Somali men, a trait that reflects the nature of a land that has always been coveted throughout history. Yet the Somali character has remained unchanged and, perhaps, has only grown fiercer.

Her whole perspective of her homeland and her community is completely wrong, so there is no reason for me to even wait for the film.

I like the fact that she proudly carries our flag everywhere, but she should have stuck to that role instead of trying to impose her own ideas and project her personal choices onto Somali society.
