I am deeply concerned by reports that the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) has decided to inject MVR 2.5 billion into the Pension Fund to facilitate the purchase of government-issued Treasury Bonds. Unlike the COVID-19 crisis, where an economic emergency justified extraordinary measures, this move lacks justification and poses significant risks. It may fuel inflation, devalue the Rufiyaa, and increase demand for USD, ultimately undermining economic stability. Furthermore, this action appears to circumvent the fiscal limits set by the Fiscal Responsibility Act, making it not only reckless but also potentially unlawful. I urge the MMA to uphold its mandate of price stability and protect our economy from such fiscal and monetary practices. Citizens should not bear the burden of irresponsible decisions that erode public trust.

1. Court orders have been issued for the arrest of several MDP activists before protest starts.

2. Weapons including wooden clubs and petrol bombs have been deliberately planted in locations frequented by MDP members under the instruction of ACP Jamsheed, with a handpicked team carrying out the operation.

3. Crime Investigation Command has been handed temporarily to ACP Hussain Rasheed.

4. Police Command and Control will be overseen by ACP Ahmed Mohamed (24).

5. Commissioner of Police Naveen has been sidelined in the process.

6. At Police HQ, MTCC Managing Director Retired Saudy is assisting with technical operations.
