For her significant contributions to our understanding of volcanoes, @DrRebeccaC receives the Dorothy Hill Medal for #EarthScience research.
She studies eruption and hydrothermal processes on the land and on the sea floor.

Today is the unofficial #InternationalDayOfVolcanoes. If you could safely spend a day on any volcano (in a pretend world with no COVID or travel fees) where would you go?
Pretty pics encouraged!
Mine: Ngauruhoe/Tongariro. Home ❤️
For my 2nd crack at #7DaysOfFieldwork I'll focus on meteorite impact craters & #ImpactEarth, our research & #outreach initiative https://t.co/8o2xTBl87w. First crater of the week: Haughton #Nunavut🇨🇦the 1st crater I visited for my PhD. 23 km diam, 23 Myr old @impact_craters
Well, working from home + kids off school for a while so fieldwork is definitely off the table for the foreseeable future - time to live vicariously & think of better times via #7DaysOfFieldwork😀

@Science_Academy@UTAS_ Honoured to be awarded the Dorothy Hill Medal. Marine Science of whatever flavour is always a group effort, so sincere thanks to all my colleagues, students, mentors, ship technicians and facilitators who make transformational science happen!!! @HavreVolcano#Honorifics20
Congratulations #NYSFoz 1997 Alumna @DrRebeccaC who has received the Dorothy Hill Medal for her significant contribution to volcanology and #EarthScience research. Dr Carey says her life as a volcanologist at @UTAS_ is one of constant learning. #Honorifics20@HavreVolcano
I want to find out how you fell in love with science! 💕
Were you tiny 👶 or a teenager 🧍🏽♀️? Was it through school 🏫 or books 📚 or people 👩🏼🤝👨🏿? Did you fall for chemistry 🧪 or astrology 🔭 or something else entirely?
Tell me your stories! #STEM#ScienceStories#science
We’ve got @volcano_grad here talking about his work on the 2012 pumice raft-forming @HavreVolcano eruption 🌋 Read more from Sam here: https://t.co/7h1nwIaV1y
Interested in a PhD in Marine Geophysics working with our newly collected 3D seismic data from an active submarine volcano?

This is not a drill!
A position with the Global Volcanism Program is open! Come work with us in D.C.!
I repeat, this is not a drill 😃🌋
Read the thread and job posting for more info:
So where do we FIND deep-sea volcanoes?
In a number of places actually! Most activity is estimated to occur on mid ocean ridges (e.g. through the Mid Atlantic), but it also happens at hotspots (e.g. Hawai'i, Galapagos), along arcs (e.g. S of Japan, Tonga, Marianas, Aluetians)...
So let's kick things off with a fact!
DID YOU KNOW that over 70% of global volcanic activity happens at the bottom of the oceans?! And yet most of this activity goes completely unnoticed!

The back (stern) of the ship is where the magic (science) happens! 📊 These are the seismic and OBS decks where all of our equipment is physically deployed from! Theres 10s miles of cables in there!

How do fractures in volcanoes control where magma goes?? 🤷♂️🌋 This is one of the main objectives of our study at Axial Volcano! CHECK OUT THE POST BELOW ⬇️ to find out more! @UTGeophysics @NSF_GEO @NSF@LamontEarth@unevadareno#NSFfunded#scienceatsea

Glad to see our NE Pacific submarine volcanic sibling, Axial, getting some research cruise love this summer! Check out the latest Axial expedition to image its 3D subsurface structure! @Axial3D_Seismic
Hey @Newsweek, what the heck are you doing with this fearmongering junk? You state that these fears are completely unfounded but you are helping fill the internet with trash headlines. Not cool!
