@die_rizzen Marxists are better off abandoning the LTV and instead focussing on the moral bankruptcy of the wage-relation and, if they want a solid formula from Marx, the M-C-M’ formula captures the destructive structural logic of capital quite well.

@die_rizzen Agreed on the second argument. The first argument is not universally true though. It is, however, somewhat true with respect to commodities, but not even in a way where you can numerically calculate the exact degree of exploitation in the price-form as Marx said could be done.

@die_rizzen I feel like it’s rather uncontroversial to say that rights can’t be found in nature and are produced through social structures. This doesn’t mean that there aren’t universal foundations to human morality, though. Materialism should support the first statement.

@heisseheisse The LTV isn’t culturally universal (see Graeber and Christopher Gregory for this), and its own internal logic has issues (see Sraffa and Keen). No worry though, the good and true bits of Marxism don’t need an LTV! M C M’ is a far more fruitful formalized insight by Marx!

@Leigh_Phillips Would the world be a better place if all corporations were forced to be co-ops. Yes. Would it be a panacea that either fulfils or lays the socialist stepping stone to Marx’s communist utopia? Probably not.

@Leigh_Phillips Ya, the problem with the co-operative is that it still relies on the commodity form, and therefore bears all the social problematics that come with it (zero-sum competition, the profit-incentive, the firm’s well-being > society’s, etc.).
