I examine the payrolls of political officeholders and wonder why people work so hard to secure those jobs. Besides the senators and members of the House of Representatives, the pay of most political office-holders is quite low.

I saw online that the annual basic salary of a commissioner in Anambra State is 1,337,000 Naira. That means that my driver earns more than a commissioner in Anambra state. I know that other allowances bring it close to 500k a month, but that is not fantastic.

If the pay is not that fantastic, why are people hustling for the job? I think it was Dr Joe Abah who said he took a massive pay cut to become a DG. I guess that's why he didn't go for a second tenure. I respect him for that.

The lifestyle of most political office-holders does not match their salary. On paper, most of us can afford to pay them their monthly wages, but they can afford to spend our yearly income in a sitting. The maths is not adding up.

We will not renovate government owned schools anymore nor offer to train their teachers. They have the resources to do that and they can fix them if they wish.

For ISEE we will build modular container schools across communities in the South East, hire and train our own teachers, use of own 21st century globally relevant blended curriculum to train the children.

We will also give out scholarships, sponsor sports competitions, support technical education, apprenticeship education, invest in science and innovations.

We must remain independent and laser focused with top level management of our investments.

Every child who cannot read, write and reason represents lost potential for our economy, our security and our future.

We are studying the education systems that consistently produce some of the world’s strongest learning outcomes, including Singapore and China.

We are no longer educating children just to survive.

We are educating them to compete globally and lead.

That is the future we are building.
