[OPINION] South Africa’s first batch of lenacapavir has arrived. The country is expecting to get the HIV prevention jab to around 450,000 people over the next two years.
But in a country still seeing hundreds of new infections daily, founder of @Afri_Alliance, @tianjohnson and founder of @HealthJusticeIn, Fatima Hassan say it is not enough.
Access will be limited to 300 clinics across 23 districts. That means where you live could decide if you get it.

[OPINION] South Africa may be doing the work to produce lenacapavir, but it does not control the key decisions, including pricing, supply, and rollout speed.
Plans to manufacture the drug locally are also still in early stages and depend on licence approval from Gilead Sciences.
