It features a saffron-clad scamster, a self styled yoga guru (centre) who is also founder and business head of Patanjali Ayurved, a traditional and proprietary herbal drugs manufacturing for-profit company along with the central minister of health and family welfare (2019-2021) Dr. Harshvardhan, a modern medicine trained ENT surgeon (left) and minister for road and transportation Mr. Nitin Gadkari.

Together, at the height of the COVID pandemic, they released a drug called Coronil that was advertised with claims of prevention and cure. Coronil's main ingredient was Tinospora cordifolia or Giloy herb which resulted in an explosion of herb-induced autoimmune hepatitis in consumers in India.

Across the country many people had to be hospitalized, some died, while others underwent life saving liver transplantation for survival. My group reported the largest series in the world on it.

Today the High Court of Delhi ordered the charlatan and scamster to delete all tweets and media claiming coronil as a cure for COVID. Still on the shelf of leading pharmacies, the Patanjali Coronil Kit retails for Rs 545, claiming defense against initial symptoms of viral exposure. The product will now go off shelf and will become part of a dumper history of medical care in India.

But I do not blame these scamsters wholly. There is a whole Ministry in India which swallows tax payers money that promotes Giloy herb and such related pseudoscientific products and unscientific practices for various diseases including COVID prevention. They sowed the seeds of mistrust in medical science in the public and helped scamsters like this saffron thug to grow and leech on public health using misleading advertisements. When will the Ministry of Ayush be taken to trial for endangering public health?

The lawsuit against the scamster and associates was filed by various doctors associations in 2021, including Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research Chandigarh. It takes only a small group of doctors to put up a David vs Goliath fight for bettering public health. Stand up for medical science ✊
