Reading Recovery DOES NOT teach children to guess. Children in Reading Recovery are taught to decode words accurately and read for understanding.

Yes!! One size does not fit all! 👏"Highly trained teachers focus on children’s strengths, use assessment to plan instruction, and make daily decisions about curriculum and teaching based on the idiosyncratic needs of each child in their classrooms." https://t.co/o6ITljANcN
There is no ‘teacher shortage’. There are thousands of qualified experiences teachers who are no longer teaching. There’s a shortage of respect and proper compensation for teachers allowing them to actually teach.
Guessing? When scientists look at the evidence in front of them, they make an educated hypothesis & then test it to see if they are right. That’s what we want children to do when reading! Look at all the info they have, make an attempt then confirm or deny it!
Snowflake Bentley found “no 2 snowflakes are alike” by observing and photographing snowflakes. Let’s observe children closely. Hmm, no 2 children learn to read the same way, which means we need to differentiate our instruction and not teach ALL children with the same program!
Why are we throwing the baby out with the bath water? I agree that we need to beef up phonics instruction but why does that mean we have to throw out other forms of reading instruction, some of which have long standing results? Teachers need a full toolbox!#resultsmatter
You can't buy good literacy instruction, but you can invest in great literacy teachers.
The training that comes with new materials is not that investment.
Trainings are primarily procedural. Capacity-building is primarily analytical...Just like good instruction.
Incredible presentation at #TLI2022 by Jerry D’Agostino sharing the truth about Reading Recovery’s long term impact…and clarifying issues with other analyses.

Dr. Jerome D'Agostino just showed that Reading Recovery DID have a positive impact on third and fourth grade standardized test scores. This refutes the recent study released by Dr. Henry May.
