That’s allowed us to have it all: a SAHM who homeschooled and Catholic schooled, three beautiful and well adjusted smart girls, ample retirement and 529 and charitable savings, etc. Even early retirement coming up.

The price I paid was almost never ending 60 hour weeks to make it all happen. Interrupted by 70 hour weeks during tax season.

So spare me your arguments about welfare equity. Hustle. Get after it. Be a husband and a Dad. Earn that money yourself. Don’t ask taxpayers to support your freaking family.

Young men need to grow up.

Get married. Take responsibility. Work hard. Become capable of supporting a family. Understand that being a husband and father means sacrifice. If you and your wife decide that having Mom home with the kids is important, then build a life that makes that possible.

2026 “conservatives”:

Actually, never mind.

If your paycheck can’t support the family arrangement you chose, Uncle Sam will help replace your wife’s forgone income.

But don’t worry. This is VERY conservative because she’s your wife.

What the hell are we teaching young men?

You cannot spend decades telling men that one of the responsibilities of husbandhood and fatherhood is becoming capable of providing for a family, then turn around and tell them that the federal government should subsidize the income their household voluntarily gave up.

And before someone deliberately misunderstands me: stay-at-home motherhood is work.

Raising your own children is extraordinarily valuable.

But “this work is valuable” leading into “therefore the federal government should pay you to do it” is Marxist.

The government does not become responsible for writing me a check every time I do something socially valuable.

That used to be an extremely basic conservative distinction.

Cut taxes. Eliminate marriage penalties. Reduce the cost of housing. Remove regulations that inflate the cost of living. Don’t create a new class of welfare recipients.

“A man should be able to earn enough to support his family.”

Is not the same thing as:

“A man should work 35 hours and taxpayers should make up part of the income his household voluntarily gave up.”

You can be all for this, but then don’t pretend like you’re conservative. Because it is not a conservative position to teach victimhood and government dependency to subsidize your lifestyle just because the other side does it.

Don’t we remember when we were little and our parents told us things like if your friend jumped off a bridge would you jump off a bridge also… the answer is no.
