If you’ve been systematically falsifying serious crimes to make the problem look less bad before an intervention, you’ll underestimate the intervention; likewise improvement began with Trump in early 2025, before the August occupation, but that still noticeably helped. & so forth

In 2025 DC’s head prosecutor (Biden appointee focused on 1/6) & its police brass—chief & 13 other top officials—were replaced (huge scandal re: falsely downgrading 1000s of serious violent crime as eg misdemeanors or property crime). So effect harder to see, but signs are there…

The study they cite says the nat’l guard in DC caused overall crime to drop 24%, gunshots to drop 45%, 911 calls to drop 20%, etc; & this is likely an underestimate of its effect (see next post). & DC’s 2026 homicide rate is on track to be *1/3* of its avg during the Biden years.

My birthday is in a week so I don't want to be too high-cortisol, but the terminology "political economy" was used by liberal and 'reductionist' (under Marx's standards) thinkers. The Principles of Political Economy by McCullouch. Political Economy by Nassau Senior.

The transition to economics as a term, somewhat exemplified by Marshall, was to transition economic studies from vague and poorly-defined propositions and unreliable testimonies (which Smith & Ricardo are both very guilty of doing, Smith especially with the latter, e.g. him accepting a Mr. Anderson's testimony on South Sea joint-stock corporations at face value) to formalised and rigorous theories, imperfect as that may be.

And it is silly to say Economics in the "mainstream" does not consider the rôle of politics in any sense. Acemoglu and the institutionalists exist, as do the public choice school of thought which assume away the value-neutrality of the State in interventionist policies.

Was playing Minecraft recently and found a macabre pillar in nether. It was made out of soul sand. Out of pure curiosity I placed 3 wither skulls on top of it. Suddenly it started transforming into something obscure and horrible. That's what it transformed into.
