I want to give a shout out to those who were cycling 20 years ago before there was ANY infrastructure. You kept the dream of livable cities alive and are braver than I.
You could write an entire essay about Englishness based on this picture; the loathing of fuss, the stubborn refusal to acknowledge his mounting discomfort
This 1985 letter to Margaret Thatcher, from the No.10 policy unit, arguing why water should be privatised, is really illuminating because ALL of the arguments are terrible. We can go through them: https://t.co/zA3YDaYIBe
What a melancholy comparison. It’s time, lavishly & liberally, to replant street trees, widen pavements, rip out ugly lights & reclaim streets from their highways officer overlords

I didn't receive 15 years of notice that my taxes were going up to fund the retirements the WASPI generation failed to save for. My friends learned about 18 months in advance that going to university would cost them £9k a year rather than £3k.
I also don't recall ministers setting out 15 years in advance that housing would become unaffordable as a result of government decisions pandering to homeowners, or that having a family would be an increasingly unrealistic dream for so many of my friends, with their incomes swallowed up by rents and taxes funding retirees.
Perhaps rather than sacrificing every single future prospect on the altar of boomer entitlement, we can just tell them "no" for once?
"If I had my way, we'd be talking not about HS2 being thin-sliced, but about HS3, HS4 and HS5."
Andy Haldane, former Bank of England chief economist, speaks to @heliaebrahimi about his support for HS2 and expansion of similar projects.
I delivered the largest number of LTNs in the U.K.
This is what they do:
* Halve road injuries.
* Eliminate rat-running.
* Reduce pollution, even at boundaries.
* Reduce street crime.
Rishi Sunak wants to impose these scourges on you and your family.

Hi Rachel, I sold my NVIDIA shares too early and went to cash, which is losing money in real terms.
Please can Labour confirm how they will be compensating me for *my* poor investment decisions?
