My attention has been drawn to some media reports following my brief appearance earlier this morning on Channels TV regarding the ongoing reforms of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), particularly on the issue of the proposed uniform.
For the avoidance of doubt, yes, I mentioned Adire during the discussion. I also mentioned Ankara. My intention was simply to cite examples of some of the proposals that have been put forward in the course of our consultations. It was not an announcement that any particular fabric has been adopted or approved to replace the current NYSC uniform.
For the record, what we are considering are different options that tick all the right boxes in terms of professional outlook, a unique national identity, durability, functionality, cost-effectiveness, and the projection of national pride. No final decision has been taken on the fabric or design.
As with every aspect of the ongoing NYSC reforms, any eventual decision will be guided by extensive stakeholder engagement and what best serves the interests of the Scheme and the nation.
I respectfully urge Nigerians to continue to engage with the ongoing NYSC reform conversation based on its broader objectives and the immense benefits it holds for our young people and our country. The reforms are designed to make the Scheme more relevant to today's realities by improving employability, promoting entrepreneurship, strengthening national integration, enhancing service delivery, and creating a smoother transition from education to productive careers.
While conversations around the uniform are understandable, they should not overshadow the far-reaching reforms aimed at empowering millions of Nigerian youths and positioning the NYSC as a stronger platform for national development.
I appreciate the constructive feedback and assure Nigerians that every proposal will continue to be carefully considered in the best interest of the nation.
The school’s coordinator, Ango Surajudeen, thanked him, saying the gesture inspired staff and the Board of Governors. MFA confirmed that all equipment has been delivered, helping restore functional laboratory facilities and support better educational outcomes.
@mfabdullahi (MFA) donated modern laboratory equipment to his former school, Ilorin Comprehensive High School, to improve science education and practical learning. The donation followed a holiday visit where he pledged support to the institution.
Today, I presented the 2026 Budget of the Federal Ministry of Youth Development before the Joint Committee on Youth Development at the National Assembly. Our proposal reflects a strong focus on capital investment to sustain youth empowerment programmes nationwide.
I briefed the session on our achievements in 2025, including the expansion of the Nigerian Youth Academy (NIYA), the launch of NIYA Gig and NIYA Startup, the provision of startup grants to over 300 young Nigerians, the creation of 5,000 jobs in the data privacy sector in collaboration with the Nigerian Data Protection Commission, and the resolution of over 6,000 cases through the Youth HelpDesk.
Despite a progressive reduction in budgetary allocation, our commitment remains firm. We are rehabilitating Youth Development Centres across the country, strengthening digital skills partnerships, and advocating for a structured 15% youth development funding framework at national and state levels. Investing in young people is not optional; it is strategic. With sustained legislative support and improved funding releases, we will continue transforming the potential of Nigerian youth into measurable national growth.

I was in Edo State to secure the release of 52 students who were detained following protests in their community, an intervention that underscores our commitment to responsive leadership and calm engagement. I sincerely appreciate His Excellency, the Governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo @he_mondayokpebholo, whose decisiveness, humility, and people-first approach ensured a swift and humane resolution. His actions reaffirm a deep commitment to education, justice, and the wellbeing of young people in Edo State.
I also commend the Edo State Education Commissioner, Dr. Paddy Iyamu @dr_emmapaddy, for his steady leadership and constructive engagement throughout the process. This outcome sends a clear message: dialogue works, education matters, and the voices of young Nigerians deserve protection within the bounds of peace and responsibility.

I extend my deepest sympathies to British-Nigerian boxing champion, Anthony Joshua (AJ), following the tragic accident that claimed the lives of two of his close friends.
This is an incredibly difficult moment, and my thoughts and prayers are with Mr. Joshua as he grieves this painful loss. The passing of loved ones leaves a void that words can hardly fill, and this sorrow is shared not only by his family and friends, but by the millions who admire and draw inspiration from him across the world.
Anthony Joshua remains a powerful symbol of resilience, discipline, hard work, and excellence; values that continue to inspire young Nigerians globally. Personally, I recognize the influence and responsibility borne by figures like Anthony Joshua, whose life journey motivates many of our young people to persevere, believe in themselves, and strive for greatness. In this moment of grief, I stand firmly in solidarity with him, offering prayers, strength, and comfort.
I also extend heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased. May they find comfort in cherished memories and in the love and support of their communities. I pray that God grants them peace, strength, and the grace to bear this loss.
As a nation, Nigeria shares in this grief, while reaffirming empathy and support for one of its own during this time of deep human vulnerability. May the souls of the departed rest in perfect peace.
One Year of Selfless Service
Today, we celebrate one year of visionary and result-driven leadership by the Honourable Minister of Youth Development, Comrade Ayodele Olawande Wisdom, under the Renewed Hope Administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR.
Over the past year, the Ministry has witnessed remarkable transformation driven by innovation, inclusiveness, and a deep commitment to youth empowerment. From the launch of the Nigerian Youth Academy (NiYA), Nigeria Youth Helpdesk, and Circular Economy Youth Empowerment Initiative (CEYEI), to the Youth Data Protection Awareness Training, YO! Health, Youth Cred Scheme, strategic digital literacy partnerships with NITDA, and ongoing NYSC reforms, every stride reflects the Honourable Minister’s unwavering dedication to building a generation of empowered, productive, and patriotic young Nigerians.
As we mark this milestone, we reaffirm our commitment to advancing the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda-ensuring that every young Nigerian has access to opportunities that inspire growth, innovation, and national development.
Theirs is a friendship founded on shared goals and worthy of emulation. Congratulations to them as they celebrate their convocation today at the @UnilorinNGR
The trio of Fasilat Olajumoke Rafiu, Green-Stone Emmanuel & Laro Kazeem truly deserve to be called the Three Musketeers. They have stood by each other from their BSc through MSc, and now to their PhD. #unilorin40thconvocation#BetterByFar
I had the honour of delivering the Goodwill Message at this year’s edition of the Life After School (LAS) Summit hosted by the @NoellaFoundatn in Lagos. Every year, this inspiring platform reminds us that the real journey begins after school, when certificates give way to character, and grades make room for grit. The path from campus to career is rarely easy, but with the right skills, values, and mindset, it becomes a launchpad for greatness.
I reminded the over 500 young graduates in attendance that life will test their patience but never their purpose. I urged them to keep learning, volunteer freely, start small but start strong, and build discipline and meaningful relationships. What they do in the first five years after graduation, I told them, will shape the next fifty years of their lives.
Drawing from my personal journey, I cautioned them against shortcuts that promise wealth but rob them of wisdom, and reminded them never to compare their stories with others, because every destiny has its own clock.
As we continue to empower young Nigerians through initiatives like NiYA, YouthCred, and Yo! Health under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, we are shaping a future where education truly translates to employment, enterprise, and empowerment. Special appreciation to Mrs. Layal Tinubu and the Noella Foundation for their enduring commitment to raising a generation of doers, dreamers, and nation builders.
