A Disabled People’s Organisation, run by and for disabled people. Making positive changes to disabled people’s rights and inclusion in the Scottish Highlands.
Our human rights aren't expendable in times of crisis. Today, with the Scottish Independent Living Coalition of Disabled People’s Organisations, we call for action to address threats to disabled people’s rights to life and health as a result of Covid-19. https://t.co/pRYq5mVMQY
"Patients are being considered on a case by case basis by their medical team". Are they? How do you ask to be considered? A lot of very at risk people don't seem to be on the so-called 'vulnerable' list. https://t.co/8MgJZBmFLY
We've been told there's no blanket approach to decisions on who gets life-saving treatment based on age/ disability but society has long devalued disabled people's lives. We must have confidence in the basis for decisions, we must be involved & our wishes respected.
Having pushed to get @ScotGovFM announcements BSL signed, we asked @BBCScotland to ensure signers are kept in shot. Delighted to learn today that they’ve agreed and@BBCNewsround online will include subtitles. Thank you! Inclusive communications were never more important.
Our first #HighAbilityNetwork afternoon session is now well way! Our delegates are now designing the logo for our new Disabled People’s Organisation! 😁
We've supported the forming of a new Disabled People's Organisation (led by disabled people ourselves) in the Highlands, the first in nearly 20 years! Follow them @Highability1 Thanks to everyone who has supported our Highlands Project and helped make this happen! #GoodNewsTues
We're delighted that the BBC have responded to @NFBUK 's petition on the closure of the Red Button text service by listening to our concerns as disabled people and suspending the switch off to examine the issues. https://t.co/4W2kBVEpma #NAUWU
Calling all NHS Hospitals .
Funding applications are still open to apply for #ChangingPlaces toilets to be installed so everyone can go to the loo when they have to visit !

Second example today of lack of accessible toilets. I'm fed up with this. Do you think it would make them take the need for (functioning) accessible toilets more seriously if, when none are provided, we just peed in a convenient corner?
Pedestrian to me, a wheelchair user:”Let me push you. I’ll take over.”
Me:”No, thanks.”
Pedestrian:”I insist.” (Starts pushing me)
Me:”You need to stop now.”
Pedestrian:”There’s no need to be rude.”
When a disabled person declines help, it is not rudeness.
Man on phone:”Oh, great. The bus is late and now a wheelchair came to the bus stop. I’m never going to get home.”
You’ve got it wrong.
Disabled people don’t make others wait.
Nondisabled people make disabled people wait for access and civil rights.
We'd like to wish everyone who has connected with us a Happy Christmas and New Year. Our staff will be working right up to and including Christmas eve and also in between Christmas and New Year. This is one of our favourite times of year!
👉Too often young people fall off a cliff edge when they 'age out' of children's services.
🙌A new Bill is coming to Parliament to give every disabled child a transitions plan.

Delighted to have received support from Scottish & Provincial Press at the recent Shires Awards #TheSHIREs#SPPMediaGroup Thanks to everyone who purchased a raffle ticket on the night - a fantastic £1815 was raised in aid of SNAP #supportlocal#specialneeds#HarperMacleodLLP
Huge thanks @DJohnsonMSP for lodging a question in parliament, asking whether the Scottish Government will include disability in the widening access agenda. Make access to university fairer for disabled people, please sign the petition https://t.co/BBXXCs498r #FairAccess
