In the last 12 months, a total of 24 faculty and staff members in my college have quit. Many others are actively looking for employment elsewhere.
Actual question asked by the dean:
Canvas is hacked and stressing out 230+ Million students, teachers and staff during finals. What does this mean and how do we stay safe? What are the next steps for the 8,800 affected schools during finals. Answered below in my video:
Classes are over. Half of central IT's pages, including Canvas, have been down for more than 24 hours. @ass_deans sends an email reminding everyone that grades are due by 5 pm today.
Dean to "senior" staff member: "Thank you for your service to the college. I wish you the best in your retirement at the end of the month."
Staff member: I'm afraid that I'm confused. I'm not planning on retiring.
Dean:
@Lionel202518732@ConsoomerLs +1 for tech school. I know someone half my age who became a commercial electrician (inside wiring - nothing on high voltage power poles) and is making more than I am (with a 4-year degree and 25+ years at the same job).
@katieporterca Why does everything have to be "FREE"?
maybe cut down the administration overhead to reduce costs?
how about students operating the university while they attend as job experience in a real environment?
WMU Alert: 3/19/26: Except for essential services, all Kalamazoo campuses are closed and classes are canceled today due to the power outage. Check https://t.co/ZuoPDV2gCn for more information.
Mount Saint Vincent University is closed until further notice due to a power outage affecting all buildings except the Sheila A. Brown Centre for Applied Research.
I'm not "involved with maintaining essential operations" here, but if I "accidentally" turn off the right pieces of equipment, I could make the argument that I need to "work from home" for the rest of the day...
Please be advised that classes at the Ottawa, Pembroke and Perth campuses are cancelled today, March 17, due to power and internet disruptions. Campuses remain open.
All classes are scheduled to resume as scheduled tomorrow, March 18.
Thank you, and please stay safe.
