@jlosc9 Jose, I’m so sorry to hear this. It was great to work with you when I was there as a fellow. Even though you were just starting in your role, you took the time to give me opportunities to do more work with the podcasts. Saddened to see these losses at TI this week.
What an absolute privilege to talk to the inimitable @peterbergencnn for his brilliant new podcast “InTheRoom”. If you’re interested in conflict / geopolitics/ the psychology of war, then this podcast is for you!
@JM_Luna@offbeatorbit Makes sense. I was more pointing out that the tip percentages don’t indicate how much places pay their workers - bc they all, across the board, pay the minimum they’re allowed to with very few exceptions. Sounds like we agree in essence!
@JM_Luna@offbeatorbit And to be clear, I worked in the industry for 17 years across several states, in roughly ten establishments total. So I do know what I’m talking about here. My point is - the system is fucked, tip AT LEAST 20%, and don’t complain that you’re politely prompted to do so.
@JM_Luna@offbeatorbit My point is it’s very silly to complain about an establishment following policies that get more tips out of patrons. I find ppl that complain about things like this also don’t want to tip. They’d probably also not like to pay higher prices if places paid higher wages.
@JM_Luna@offbeatorbit Totally valid to criticize this system but the suggested percentages really don’t say much about individual bar/restaurant owners, and if anything indicate they at least care a bit about their staff making money.
@JM_Luna@offbeatorbit Places with these percentages set are just trying to make it harder to tip less than the standard. I usually take it as a sign that ownership is at least invested in their staff making money - in my experience this has been the case.
