@eucatastropha Many fail to understand that the Bible presents various conceptions of God. There is no single, uniform biblical understanding of God, yet there is One.
Yes, I worship a Jewish God-man (and eat his body and blood), and a Jewish woman from the first century, alongside many other theosized (made gods) human beings from all over Italy, Greece, and the Mediterranean.
No, I don't care what the neo-pagan Nordic white LARPers say.
@lewbhos@LukewarmDrinker Applying different rules or principles to similar situations depending on who is involved is a widespread part of human behavior.
Double standards are not limited to a single group, and they are not essential to anyone's nature; there is simply a human tendency toward them.
Many traditions practiced by Christians are likely of pre-Christian origin, such as the cult of the saints, popular piety, statues, icons, patron saints, votive offerings, processions and pilgrimage, funerary meals for the dead, philosophical traditions, and household shrines.
@TimAAmor They’re LARPing as Romans, can’t you see? They wuz the true Romans! 😭
Public spectacle + fear = what Americans apparently want to use/used (Hanging people, burning people, lynching people).
Public spectacle + humiliation + pain + fear = what the Romans used.
@sniffinglues@ProcyonAU I do know English, and I do know the term English-speaking Christians use. It was a matter of personal choice, either to be provocative or to explain later what I meant.
@xxxivscipio@BrassInfamy@DEINEMUTTER314 Commonly, one would say, “I venerate Mary,” thus avoiding all the baggage of having to explain oneself later. I do that too, often. But in that post, I felt like being explicitly provocative.
@xxxivscipio@BrassInfamy@DEINEMUTTER314 Their understanding of worship is limited.
Worship can mean honour, devotion, or reverence. Catholicism distinguishes latria (adoration of God), dulia (veneration of saints), and hyperdulia (special veneration of the Theotokos).
When I say I worship Mary, I do not mean latria.
@DEINEMUTTER314 Levels of worship vary by the one honored:
Latria, the highest, is given to God alone, especially at Mass.
Hyperdulia is given to Mary.
Protodulia is given to St. Joseph.
Dulia is given to the saints, who are gods by grace.
@sniffinglues@ProcyonAU I have already used the term veneration when talking about angels, for instance. It is a matter of terminological preference, provided one understands the context.

The best way to venerate the archangels is to better yourself in every area you can: your studies (they value knowledge), your physical training, your attitude, and your way of thinking.
They are not like the gods of the nations; they accept no material gifts.
@Katapetasma2 I'm genuinely confused by this post. Satan would teach the very things Jesus taught?
Are you implying that Jesus is an adversary of God, or that an adversary of God could teach what Jesus taught?
