President Uhuru Kenyatta on 1st June, 2022 pardoned 3,908 inmates held countrywide, on recommendation by the Power of Mercy Advisory Committee.
The President exercised the prerogative of mercy during the National Madaraka Day celebrations held at the historic Uhuru Gardens.

The pardoned inmates consisted of petty offenders and inmates serving sentences of less than six (6) months.
The president told the pardoned offenders, "I charge you all to be change makers in our society and to restore faith and confidence in our criminal justice system."

Their recruitment is expected to facilitate the increased use of non-custodial sanctions by the judiciary and facilitate supervision of offenders placed on non-custodial sanctions, rehabilitation, reintegration and resettlement of offenders in the community.

The PS welcomed the newly recruited Probation Officers to Government and urged them to work their level best to ensure they have contributed in the administration of justice through proper management of offenders.
