One of the honors of serving as President is having the "Presidential Challenge Coin" — a memento that I have handed out as President and in the years since to the folks I meet who have served our country or their communities. I was grateful to be able to greet veterans who served in Korea and Vietnam as they arrived in DC this weekend, and give them a personal token of my gratitude.

Exactly twenty years ago – on May 21st, 2005 – history was made with the very first Honor Flight. What began with six small planes and a dozen WWII veterans has transformed into a national nonprofit organization, Honor Flight Network, comprised of 130+ hubs wholly dedicated to honoring and celebrating America’s heroes. Honor Flight co-founders Jeff Miller and Earl Morse created the simple, yet profound, vision of bringing veterans to the nation’s capital to visit their memorials. Since then, Honor Flight has impacted the lives of over 317,128 veterans – treating them to an unforgettable journey of gratitude.

This anniversary isn't just about a date. It's about remembering the faces, the sacrifices, and the incredible spirit that built this nation. Each and every Honor Flight trip is a chance to say "thank you" to the brave men and women who have given so much to protect the freedoms we cherish. Today we commemorate the enduring legacy of Honor Flight and the 317,128+ veterans we have celebrated with their trip of honor to our nation’s capital.
