@95hannahlouise Could it have been the defunct NASA satellite that was set to re-enter Earth’s atmosphere? I heard about it from a space communicator on Instagram, Astro.Alexandra.

@JenLuvsReviews I vote say it how you always do. I got made fun of in elementary school because of how I said interesting and ended up changing it to make kids leave me alone and I wish I hadn’t.

What do you see when you look at your dog? Do you see the puppy your dog was? Do you see a companion or friend? When we look at Bunsen we see this lazy, goofy, cartoon bear dog. At least we used to. Our family sees him differently now. We see him as a hero. No, Bunsen didn’t save anyone from a burning house OR alert our family to a small foolish boy fallen down a well, but he showed that in an instant he would answer the call to protect us. This is the story of Bunsen versus the coyote. The day that Beaker nearly met her end was just like any other day. The snow had melted, the leaves were coming in on all the trees and I had a Sunday afternoon to take the dogs off on an adventure through the creek. As soon as the garage door was opened Beaker squirted out like karate chopped toothpaste and Bunsen lumbered after her. After the required sniff and pee and then roam and poo, our band was off down the steep incline to the creek. I’m told the path we take is an old tractor road that eventually became a horse trail. The path led down to the creek, which at the time, was easy enough to leap over. After spring melt it shrinks to a babbling brook and despite having a pitiful vertical jump, it's easy to clear. Beaker, ever the water dog, waded through the creek, found the deepest parts and got good and soaking wet. Bunsen hopped across careful to not get his dainty giant paws wetter than they needed to be. Sometimes I catch him staring at her while she frolics in the water and like us wondering what the hell is she thinking. On a normal creek adventure we climb up the other side of the hill and follow the fence line north for about 20 minutes before making a right turn to circle back, jump the creek, and complete the loop. For the first half of the walk we are in prairie grass and high enough to overlook the forest that grows through the creek. It gives me an idea of if there are critters below, but also a warning of sound and noise for them to clear out so we don’t come across them unaware. For some reason I decided to go further than normal (probably as it was the weekend and a warm late spring day) and it took us down in a very shady part of the creek. It’s not like we haven’t been to this area before. Bunsen knows and loves this area as half of his mooeslegs were liberated from these sacred grounds. There is a narrow path on the north side of the creek that I normally walk (its the same path I take when I ski), and that narrow path opens up to one of the huge forest sections. I was lost in thought, listening to the birds, when a large shadow moved on my left. It took a second for my brain to register that the thing charging out of the bushes was 1. Not Bunsen or Beaker 2. Dog like 3. Not friendly Beaker was ahead of me, maybe thirty steps, and with horror I knew it was either a wolf or coyote. Everything happened so fast. I do remember SCREAMING Beaker’s name. I remember that vividly. I have never used that tone at that volume in my life, but it just erupted from my throat. I remember Beaker pausing to look at the animal, freezing, and then maybe moving to escape. Perhaps she heard my scream laced with terror and knew something was wrong. Perhaps the Not-A-Dog had a smell that was off. It didn’t matter. It’s true what they say about fear that you get this pit in your stomach. I knew that even though I was racing towards her SCREAMING, the thing would get her first. It was like I had a void in my body, an emptiness. I distinctly remember thinking I would have to tell my family I had lost Beaker. In all of this I forgot about Bunsen. I honestly don’t know where he was when the coyote abandoned its hiding spot, but the bear in our bear dog roared to life. Bunsen intercepted the coyote before it reached Beaker. He had puffed himself up and looked like he was about twice the size of a normal Bunsen. Not only that he was Growl Yelling at the coyote. The coyote had stopped a few feet short of Bunsen and Bunsen had stopped on a small muddy island in the middle of the creek with Beaker behind him. I'm not going to lie. Bunsen looked TERRIFYING. For a second the two canines had a stare off, then the coyote turned and ran. Bunsen decided it wasn’t moving quick enough and chased it, nipping at it feet and growling, still in his puffed bear mode. I made it to Beaker by this time and clicked her up to the leads I always carry and called for Bunsen as he had disappeared up over the top of the creekbed. My heart sunk that Bunsen had met some coyote backup and got himself into trouble, but our hero quickly crested the creek (illuminated by the sun like Gandalf) and padded back to us as if NOTHING had happened. I thought the issue was over, but the coyote called back at us in displeasure, this is what I caught on video. Bunsen didn’t respond. He just smiled at us and went back to sniffing the creek bed. Beaker was no worse for wear (but I did keep on her a leash for the rest of the walk). God, I hugged Bunsen when we got back. I think I gave him an entire pack of dog treats. I told him he saved Beaker and that he was so brave. I whispered I was proud of him and he was the best dog. Bunsen took the treats happily and then promptly fell asleep for two hours in a sunbeam. So, when we are asked, what do we think about when we look at our dogs, I have a very specific answer. I see a goofy, silly, affectionate, giant, lazy, fluffy thing. I also see a hero. That is who Bunsen is. #dogs

bunsenbernerbmd's tweet photo.
