@berkun We believe learning how to communicate your design to others should be taught in elementary school; facilitation should be taught in high school. VERY important skills to have. Applicable far beyond the boardroom. Thus we've been working with the Toronto District School Board.
@AlexOsterwalder Exactly... In reality they're more like incompatibility creators, but... they are focused on creating products that are solely compatible with their own product ecosystems.
@shannonmattern Yes! Technology is very misunderstood. It could be argued that language is a form of technology. The wheel is technology, a stick can be technology. Those who think technology is computers and electronics don't really understand what technology is.
@berkun The problem is we're myopic when it comes to design. We're quick to assume others are wrong instead of understanding what design really means. I think its symptomatic of poor education; which is a complex problem I wouldn't want to try to simplify.
@berkun I didn't miss that. I noticed the quotes, though I think his name is spelled with a Y, Bryan Lawson. Anyway my point was the term 'design' is arguably more ambiguous now than in the 80s - the education hasn't worked. Maybe there's a better way to usher change.
@smashingmag@smashingconf@vitalyf Glad to hear it. If you work in a little more UX, design and marketing content, the team here would LOVE to come back. As we noted in the post, we really liked everything except watching the speakers write and debug CSS. (Which, unfortunately, was about 80% of the conference.)
@smashingconf@vitalyf@smashingmag I think they finally un-suspended my account... Apparently I did not break any rules after their investigation lol - the link should work now. https://t.co/RXo5Do3wTd
@smashingconf@vitalyf@smashingmag Oh boy, someone reported one of my posts as being contrary to their code of conduct and they suspended my account. Chatting with them now, hopefully it'll be reinstated soon and the link will start working again. #weird#mistake
Companies that only compete on (new) products, features, & price will die. Building better business models is the new competitive arena! Great business models always outcompete great products!
