🎉🔬It's a wrap #SWRM2024! 👏🧪! 🥳 @jabuonomo Lab undergrads launched with brilliant posters, and 🚀our grads closed with amazing presentations! 🌟 Prof. Shelor and Dr. Vali also added their science to the chemistry finale! 🙌Thanks @BaylorCBC & SWRM @AmerChemSociety ! 👏🧪✨
August's member of the month is Shiyong Wu! Shiyong is a past president of ASP and received his Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of Nebraska. Shiyong currently runs the Shiyong Wu Lab at Ohio University!
Happy Pride Month! 🏳️🌈
I drew this last year using all kinds of natural and synthetic dyes, pigments, etc. Many of them were taken from books on textile dyes that I poured through. This took a ton of time and a ton of research. But, it was a fun piece to create! #chemtwitter
Here's a snapshot of my grad school funding. I was grateful to get scholarships in grad school. However, grad students today, 15 years later, will recognize those amounts as unchanged. #SupportOurScience
Registration is now open!

The Discover Student Research Symposium is happening now until 12 pm in COB and CRB; come see all the great research on display! Finalists will present at 1 pm in @UTAPlanetarium, followed by awards.
Excited to share my poster on the development of some hypoxia-active Ru(II) PDT agents! "Evaluation of a New Class of Highly Active Ruthenium (II) Photosensitizers That Show Anticancer Effects in Hypoxia"

@BillTapper5@McFarland_Labs@UTAChemistry Thanks so much, Bill! It's hard to say when PDT will enter the mainstream. However, people all over the world are bringing PDT to the clinic, and I am optimistic! For example, TLD1433 is in clinical trials for bladder cancer (NMIBC), and things are looking very promising thusfar.
This #firstgen student successfully defended her PhD today! Thank you to everyone who came to support me in person and on zoom. It took a village to get me here and I am forever grateful. I'm tickled to be the first ever, Dr. Damico 🥰

Glad to be offered this opportunity by #RSCChemBio#RSCInorg#RSCPoster to share our work from @McFarland_Labs@UTAChemistry on "Exploring the Mechanistic Possibilities for Light-responsive Metallodrugs in Phototherapy"
Happy to answer any questions!!👩🔬
Happy to present our work from @McFarland_Labs at the global Twitter poster conference organized by the Royal Society of Chemistry!
Looking forward for your questions and replies🤓

@Francois_Gabbai@McFarland_Labs@UTAChemistry Thank you! You make a great point regarding the lipophilicity, but we believe more may be at play. We believe that the "4T" unit allows access to particularly cytotoxic excited states, and one of our major projects right now is gaining a better understanding of this! (1/2)
@vishal_iiserb@McFarland_Labs@UTAChemistry Thank you! We are currently using a variety of spectroscopic techniques to better understand the oxygen-dependent and oxygen-independent mechanisms at play.
