@shagginwag @WatcherGuru Bankruptcy is a legal option, not a tool, and not a guaranteed 'get out of debt' option at that. It's a failure. Perhaps by bad luck or, more likely, just bad business/finance acumen.

@DrJosefWD I've had thoughts about punching people several times in my life but I never did. And if I did, I'd expect to be arrested and charged with a crime, justly, as I'd have no legal right to punch people for getting mad at them. I don't see why the same won't apply here.

@lucythegreat123 Agreed. We are very fortunate to live in a society where 'regular Joe' civilians determine the guilt or innocence of their fellow civilians. It's not perfect and sometimes the bad guy gets away but it's better than an agent of the state determining the same.

Can we stop blaming the Lindsay Clancy jury? These are 12 people unlucky enough to have their numbers pulled. They sat for weeks listening to the most heartbreaking and devastating case imaginable. Then they were handed a web of complicated legal options like second degree murder, voluntary manslaughter, involuntary manslaughter, and not guilty by reason of insanity, and expected to kumbaya their way to a unanimous verdict.

If this case was a slam dunk it would have been a plea deal. It is incredibly complicated and reasonable people can disagree. These poor people were basically held captive, paid fifty bucks a day, and given a crappy deli sandwich on stale bread to show for it. They are not the enemy here.

Trust me, you do not want a justice system that gives judges and the government unlimited power to throw you in jail. Juries serve a crucial purpose whether you like the final result or not.
