@_sky_sorensen_ I agree that most church members want what's best for everyone. But I disagree that they know what that is. A life of repressed emotions isn't usually healthy, and that's what living the covenant path is for a lot of LGBTQIA folks.

Thank you for sharing your story! A lot of members think suffering on the mission is expected/virtuous. The idea is that it teaches character or something. I think it's just pointless trauma.

@_sky_sorensen_ I disagree. In general, people know what's best for themselves. Sometimes they get it wrong, but by and large they know better than anyone else what would make their lives better.

@_sky_sorensen_ Taking a back seat on issues that do not and cannot affect your life is actually incredibly virtuous.

The "white" opinion about the entire African continent lead to widespread genocide, enslavement, and unspeakable atrocities. I wish Europe had taken a back seat.

@_sky_sorensen_ You can have an opinion on whatever you like. But your opinion means very little on matters of personal identity when you don't belong to the group/identity in question.

It's the same reason my opinions about the black experience don't really matter and never will.
